Did your baby spit up excessively before treatment?

Did your baby's head change from a more one sided flatness to a

complete back flatness?

Did you have to get a catscan or head x-ray? Would that be the

referral to the neuro?

We did have a problem with acid reflux and we got a rx for zantac- it worked wonders. Also had to prop the mattress up a little higher on the head end to keep his food down better (used a comforter underneath the mattress). His head mostly stayed flat on the back right, and his plagio was secondary to tort. We were referred to a neurologist for the MRI- but I'm not sure that a ped can't write a script for it- I'm sure you'll get a ton of great advice on all of your questions from all of the great members here. Good luck!

that tort and reflux go hand in hand. Just thought I would share.

Very much so- I know lots of tort moms seem to experience reflux, us included.

I'm sorry you got the traditional blah, blah, blah speech from the ped. To

answer your questions, did spit up, but she did it before the helmet and

during the helmet. She started life not spitting up hardly at all, but as she

got a little older she became a spitter. I think some babies just spit up and

others don't quite so much. I don't think the plagio and spit-up are related.

s head was flat on one side - at 4 months it was VERY flat. As she got a

little older it was still flat, but different I guess because other things

started to shift. Her face, ears, forehead, etc. It was still flat, but looked

different then it did at 4 months. did have a CT scan to rule out cranio.

It is also common for drs to order x-rays, but the CT scan is more accurate. I

believe your ped could order those, but if the ped is considering sending Kady

for a scan then I would insist on seeing a specialist for his/her opinion. The

ped doesn't have the kind of experience a specialist would have in reading scans

for signs of craniosynostosis.

When you go to see the ped in three weeks if things have not gotten better I

would INSIST on a referral. If it is the worst case he has seen then maybe he

needs to take action he has not taken before. A " worst case " situation would

certainly warrant action on his part. I would not take no for an answer. Good

luck and let us know how it goes!

Just some input here....I belong to the tort group ( was dx two weeks ago with both) and they have found a correlation between tort and spitting up. I can get some more info from them and share it with you if you like. spits up quite a bit and a lot of the parents over there have found that tort and reflux go hand in hand. Just thought I would share.

Kady's ped appt (no referral)

Well, we went to the new peds today. He gave the expected speech about flat heads being normal and the baby rounding once rolling and masking w/hair. He did say, however that her's was the worst case he'd seen. He said none of their patients were in bands. He pretty much ruled out craniosynthesis (sp) except for the fact that she has been spitting up like crazy. He said that if I'd like, he could call for a catscan and x-ray to ensure the skull hasn't fused or something like that. But they'd have to sedate Kady. I have to go back in 3 weeks for her shots, so I agreed to wait it out and see if there is any improvement. So, I have a few questions if anyone could answer them for me:Did your baby spit up excessively before treatment?Did your baby's head change from a more one sided flatness to a complete back flatness?Did you have to get a catscan or head x-ray? Would that be the referral to the neuro? Thanks in advance! I have pictures of Kady in a folder here under photos. She is 16 weeks old and we first noticed the mishapen head around 6-10 weeks. For more plagio info
