Received call from Pediatrician

I got a call from my pediatrician this evening. At 's 2 month

appointment he told me that her neck would " correct itself " and her

head would " round out on it's own " . Weeeelll...we all know that's

not the case and it looks like he knows now too. Apparently the

neurologist who prescribed 's band got in touch with my

pediatrician to tell him how severe 's head has flattened. I'm

not sure what the extent of that conversation was between the

neurologist and the pediatrician but he sounded like he was a little

worried as to what my reaction would be to his phone call. He all

but apologized and said that he was surprised that 's head got

so bad because when he saw her at 2 months it " didn't look that bad " .

I decided to be pleasant and share with him 's progress and how

she has been starting physical therapy and is taking to the band ok.

I know I could be very negative and confrontational but I never think

you get very far with that attitude. Maybe this is a good learning

experience for the doctor - in the future hopefully he will be a

little more cautious the next time he sees a child that " doesn't look

that bad. "

Just wanted to share with all of you.

Wow, that's great! I am really surprised that he actually made the effort to

talk to you about it and not crawl under a rock somewhere and hide out from

you! I felt the same with my neuro- he told me was his worst case,

bye, go find pt. I had already gotten the DOC band (he had no clue about

this, and CT is 5 minutes from his office!) by the time he saw him again, he

was in shock at how well was doing, both physically (tort wise) and

developmentally. I was going there to blast him with, thanks for nothing, but

he started complimenting me on my hard work and I melted. I know that he has

since looked into banding, and he asked me to create a file for his records,

for other patients. Perhaps you can do that as well, and include some web

site info so that the next parent won't be so lost from the get go. Good for

you for doing your own legwork- your a GREAT mom!

I think its great that your ped called you! Sometimes these drs. do

things that redeem our faith in them! I also think you did the right

thing by being nice and pleasant to him, I'm sure it was hard enough

for his bruised dr. ego to call you and basically admit that he is

wrong! I'm sure you have helped future moms and dads whose child has

plagio.

Wow. I'm so happy to hear your ped. actually called you to discuss

all of this. Is still going to that ped or have you switched?

I think you handled it very well by remaining polite to him, you are

right, you usually don't get too far when you get really nasty with

them, although there are times when you need to let them have it!!!

Let's hope he's learned a less about plagio & tort and will address

future patients with more caution & seriously.

That's great your neuro talked to him about this.

Great news.

Glad to hear how well has adjusted already too.

That is great news, !!! I am glad to hear is adjusting well to the therapy and hopefully you saved another family from having to go through this experience. The more educated the doctors get about this the less it will happen.
