Hello everyone. I'm new to this group. My daughter is just

about 5 months old and has flattening to the left side of her head.

We have an appointment on Monday to go to the Orthotics. What is the

procedure on the first visit? Do they do casting that day? I've

noticed postings about measurements being done to your children. Is

that what they do first? I was so overwhelmed when we made the

appointment on Friday that I didn't ask any questions and of course I

can't reach them this weekend. Any answers would be great. Thank

you so much :)

Hello and welcome to the group. It sounds like you have already had a

diagnosis of plagiocephaly and are moving on to the next step. Where are you

getting your band? Will it be a DOCband, STARband or locally made helmet? It

depends on your orthotist whether or not you will get casted on the first

appointment. More then likely it will be a consultation type appointment

where the ortho might take pictures and measurements and then talk to you

about the band. He may go ahead with the casting so be prepared for that just

in case. Take someone with you to help and also take some comfort items like

a pacifier, bottle, blankie, stuffed toy, etc. You might also want to take

some toys that make noise of music for a distraction.

Best of luck with the appointment and we would love to hear more about your

baby.

Hi Marci

Thanks for the input. My husband will be going with me tomorrow so

I'll definitely have someone with me. I'll be sure to take the

things you suggest. I'm hoping that gets through it all ok.

I'll be sure to post tomorrow and let you all know how it went.
