Guest guest
Hi My daughter was diagnosed last week with positional plagiocephaly and torticollis. She had a ct last week and hopefully we will be able to get her an appt. for a doc band in a week or two. I would like to continue to breastfeed my baby once she has her doc band but I was interested if anyone could let me know is it difficult to breastfeed once she has the doc band on her head. Also if anyone could give me an idea of how often the band is adjusted for cranial tech is about 6 hours from my home. thanks delilah
Guest guest
Welcome to the group! I never had any issues nursing my son. He was banded from 5-8 months. You will be amazed at how it really doesn't affect anything they do! Dane got weekly adjustments because of his age. If your daughter is older, she may only have to go every other week. Guest guest
Thank you so much for the quick response, it is great to finally speak with someone who is going through the same issues. Also it is wonderful to know I will still be able to breastfeed my daughter with the doc band. Thanks again. delilah rmanias wrote: Welcome to the group!I never had any issues nursing my son. Guest guest
hi My daughter Mya got her DOC band at 9 months. She never had any problems nursing at all. I was so scared it would be a problem but it wasnt. She still did everything she did before she was banded. Mya started out getting adjustments every week and then they moved them to every ten days and then finally every 2 weeks. Sorry to hear you have such a long drive. WE have a 3 hour one way drive and I dread that. I cant imagine 6. Good luck to you! Guest guest
Hi Delilah & welcome to our group! I see you've already rec'd 2 great replies. You can definitely still breastfeed while your daughter is in her band. If you have any trouble adjusting, many of our members will offer you great tips, but I don't think many moms or babies have had a difficult time breastfeeding while the baby was in the band. Is your daughter receiving any phys. therapy for her torticollis? How old is she? The adjustment appts will depend on her age. If she's under 9 mos or so, you would probably have to go in for weekly check ups/adjustments. If she's older than that, you might be able to get away with going for bi-weekly check ups. My daughter was 11.5 mos when rec'd her DOCband and we went every 2 wks which was nice becuz we too had a longer drive (not as long as yours though!). Of course this all depends on the individual, CT would be the one to tell you for sure how often they'd need to see you for adjustments. Have you gotten the results of her CT scan yet? Welcome again to our group, we're happy to have you! Please keep us posted. Debbie Abby's mom DOCGrad MI > > Hi > > My daughter was diagnosed last week with positional plagiocephaly and torticollis. Guest guest
Hi Delilah: I didn't have any problems breastfeeding my daughter with her helmet, so that should be OK. I don't know how old your baby is, but we had to travel 5 hours one way for the DOC band. She started when she was 5 months old, and now, at almost 8 months we are down to 2 (maybe one?) more appointment. It was difficult, and exhausting, but TOTALLY worth it! We had to go every week - (every 5 days a couple of times) at first as my daughter's head was " remolding " so quickly. So, even though the travel was, well, exhausting, it was for a great cause. Thankfully, now we only go every 2 weeks. And since my daughter was not at the crawling stage (she is just about there now - maybe in one week?) it wasn't too hard to travel with her. In fact, she now preferrs to sleep in the car.... oh well. The great news is that once you get to the end, you won't even think about how hard it was to do all the traveling. You will just be so grateful to look at your darling baby's head and know that you did the right thing! Good luck, and kind regards Fellow Traveler, , Rhiannon's mom > > Hi > > My daughter was diagnosed last week with positional plagiocephaly and torticollis. Guest guest
Delilah, I was finished breastfeeding by the time my daughter got into the helmet, but I see you have already received several good posts about that. I'll just add my welcome to the group and I hope you will share some more information about Caitilin! Marci (mom to ) oklahoma
Guest guest
hi Debbie Thanks for the warm welcome. My daughter is 5 months old and yes she is receiving physical therapy, three times a week. I will have the results of her ct tomorrow and if she does not have craniosyntosis then the doctor will send her for a doc band fitting. Do you know if CT is open on the weekends and if my insurance does not cover the doc band any idea how much they cost and what does the adjustments cost. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Again thanks for the tips on breastfeeding. delilah debbieandabby wrote: Hi Delilah & welcome to our group!I see you've already rec'd 2 great replies. Guest guest
hi rachel thank you very much for the info, it is sure nice to know that the adjusments and band are inclusive. Everything I have read says the band cost around 3,000 dollars, does this sound right to you? My neuro specialist mentioned something about Angels in Flight which can fly us to the MIami, Fl location at no charge, have you ever heard of this organization or know anyone who has used it? again thanks for any help you can give me. rmanias wrote: Delilah -The price for each DOC Band is inclusive of all adjustments and castings associated with that band. Our CT in Cleveland is open on the weekends, but I don't believe all of them are.Hoping for good news tomorrow!Dane's mom DOC Grad> > > > Hi > > > > My daughter was diagnosed last week with positional plagiocephaly > and torticollis.
