Marilyn,

I didn't think to take my twins to the dentist before banding, but after my experience last week, I wish I had. Maybe you saw my post. I had my older daughter at the pediatric dentist for her regular checkup and noticed that she checked her for TMJ and bite issues. So I asked her if she knows about plagio and if it can cause those problems. She was very well informed and was kind enough to check the twins even though they didn't have an appointment. Sam also grinds his teeth, probably because he is teething and it is soothing to him. She said that both babies have a good bite and no issues with TMJ as of yet. I will never know if this is because of successful band therapy or not. I really wish that I had taken them in sooner and had the dentist write a letter for my appeal. It may have been the key to a successful appeal for us. You may have read that we were denied again on our final appeal, and looking back, I think this is the only thing I could have done differently. I wish I'd known that our dentist was plagio friendly - that might be something to look into. If you are anywhere near Dallas, I can give you her name.

P.S. To change the subject, the doctor that denied our external appeal is a pediatric neurosurgeon. I'm trying my hardest to find out his name so that no one on this board will have to go to him and be denied treatment.

Would it be a good idea for Hayden to see a dentist now before he gets his band- to see if he has jaw alignment problems- before we get a round noggin and even ears? I have read that plagiocephaly can lead to this. Has anyone else taken their child to a dentist for this? He grinds his teeth really bad (and he only has 6 teeth)- I'm not sure if this is normal or not? Marilyn- Haydens mommyFor more plagio info

My dentist says that she wants to see babies as soon as they get their first tooth, but I think that's a bit aggressive. I took as soon as she cut her last 2-year molar, which was at 15 months (ugh). I think the general rule is to take them when they turn 3, but in our case, we don't have a strong dental history, so we started a bit early. Ask your dentist what he recommends, and then do what you think is best.

Marilyn:

Lots of babies & kids grind their teeth. My friend's son constantly

did it when he was around 6 mos old, it drove her crazy! He

eventually stopped. Abby would also grind her teeth occasionally for

a bit, doesn't any more though. Eeek, I HATE hearing people grind

their teeth!
