Amie,

Aw, that is so cute! What a catch 22 your in, I can certainly understand your frustration! It is weird that they knew all the answers and are back peddling now. I would hate to say start looking into Rehab Designs, but if they are not willing to compromise, you may need to find a better experienced ortho while time is still on your side- if you feel its that necessary. I don't have much to offer you except words of encouragement, and that your a great mom to really be looking out for your little ones in every regard. Good luck to you and i hope this all gets worked out- soon!

Well, still no word from the plastic surgeon who was going to stop at

nothing to find glasses that would work with his helmet, so I am sort

of stuck right now. The other day I picked up Dakota's glasses, and

they are not only terribly (in know it doesn't really matter..) ugly,

but still very big! Once again I took someone's word (the lady who

fit the glasses), and as it turns out she doesn't 'really know' if

they'll work, but 'thinks' they might fit!! Before she was SO

confident, and 'experienced'. Now on our 2nd pair of glasses in a

month, and they STILL won't fit under the helmet. Again in about 2

weeks we will go back, and see if they can adjust the helmet or not

to accomidate them. Funny, when he has needed to be squezed in to the

ortho's office in the past he's gotten right in, but now to re-

schedule his appt it's going to take 2 weeks!?! The receptionist will

NOT let me talk directly to the orthodist, but I can relay messages.

Dr. Witt the plastic surgeon is only for the STAR band, so I am going

to have to change drs once again! This is just so frustrating (and

expensive), and I am to the point where I wanna just give up. He has

shown some correction, and I realise he can get more. Still he can

get more with OUT the helmet too!? Where do we just stop, and say

we've had enough? My suggestion the the surgeon was to have Dakota

stay in the helmet full time like he is now for another 6-8 weeks

untill we see the most correction, and then go from there. After

that point he would wear his helmet when sleeping, and the glasses

w/o the helmet when he's playing. Well, the ortho, and I thought that

was a good idea, but he about flew out the building on that

suggestion! I agree that he's growning all the time, but we have to

compromize somewhere! Geez.. he's NOT the one seeing how bad this is

getting to be, and that it's going to be next to impossible to do

this.

Still his helmet hangs down so low that he's looking at it, and

she refuses to adjust that untill we see her with the glasses in

hand. Poor guy keeps strainging so hard looking up to see what it is

that he falls over backwards, and tries to grab at it. At least it's

not over his ears anymore? Right now I don't know what one was

worse.. The one over the ear, or this one that's just so big! Not to

worry, because I haven't given up completly yet. HOpefully, between

all these appts I will be able to get into soo Rehab. designs of

america, or find another dr that doesn't have a 3 months waiting

list! Next week we see the ped for a 9 month check up, and I am going

to ask for her opinion (something she's GREAT at!).

On a postitive note I started babysitting a little girl just 4 days

younger than mine, and she just gets a kick out of Dakota's helmet!

They will sit there, and laugh at eachother all day. Dayton of course

is still in such awe of being able to see that he's fallen quiet, but

you can see the smile on his face!

Amie, mommy to Dakota (STAR), and Dayton!

Amie,

Sorry I'm so late with this response. I'm so sorry to hear of all the trouble

with the glasses and the STARband. That is such a shame. It's unfortunate you

found someone who claimed to have experience and then didn't know what to do. I

think your idea to have him wear the band for 6-8 weeks and then wear the

glasses was a good idea - too bad the dr didn't agree. :-(

Let us know what you decide to do.
