Guest guest
Hello All and , I am new here - my first post. This is a huge question and category of inquiry for me. I have tried many " alternative " treatments for my children, one of whom has been diagnosed with OCD/depression and the other with ADHD (possible OCD) I have also been trained in an alternative bodywork called " Body Mind Centering " and although I am not an active practitioner, (I am a guidance counselor for middle school at a charter school) I believe there is great change possible through means such as this. Sometimes, I think, particularly with developing brains/bodies, patterns can be worked with and changed. (I have also tried neuro biofeedback for my son ) This being said, my daughter with OCD, at 19, has manifested this " disorder " (effecting her function overtly at 13) despite all alternative treatments and her symptoms have only eased through medication (she is therapy resistant, still) However, first year nursing student far from home and passing her classes. It's always impossible as a parent to imagine how one's children would be without any treatment. I think that my kids would probably be much less functional and more unhappy if I hadn't supported them with alternative therapies (including nutritional supplements) but of course I will never know. The truth is they are both on pharmaceuticals now and they are both (14 and 19 years) happier on meds. I am not clear regarding the recent research into neurological connections between TS/ ADHD/OCD but it makes sense to maximize possibilities for physiological accessibility in the body/brain so that chiropractic (eliminating misalignment/barriers to connection) would make sense. just my two cents. I'm glad the group is here. Alice (western Massachusetts) > Hi , > > I worked with chiropractors for 7 years.
