Hi Amy :)

Yes, I have heard of a few babies who have needed a 3rd band,

although it is rare.

Have you noticed any improvement with the 1st band? Did they make any

adjustments to the band by shaving away some of the inside foam

area? Has she actually " outgrown " the 1st band?

Cranial Technologies usually won't leave a baby in a band for longer

then 4-5 mos at a time. After that time, the band loses it's

pressure points, thus loses any good hope for improvement. That is

probably why Emma will be getting a 2nd band. Hopefully with a fresh

new band with new pressure points, you'll get some more improvment.

I hope she'll hit a good growth spurt soon, she sounds like a cute

little peanut!!

Good luck....please keep us updated on her progress.

Hi Amy,

Its good to hear from you again!

Don't get too upset about a third band just yet, you never know what

these next few months will entail. Hopefully the second band will do

the trick. But needing a third band isn't all that uncommon, I know

we've had a few members who needed three, or were very close to it.

I have to agree with what Debbie said. Its not so much that Emma is

outgrowing the bands, but the bands are surpassing their shelf life,

so to say. My ortho told me that after about 4 months, a band isn't

useful anymore because it has lost its pressure points.

Good luck to you!

Amy,

We had the same problem with slow growth. My daughter had her DOC

Band for 3.8 months, from about 9-13mo old. I estimate we got about

50% volume correction (although her measurements showed only 35%

correction).

We did not make it anywhere near the end of the foam. The pressure

points were no longer effective. The tech said that even though my

daughter grew slowly, they would have expected her to be in it longer

(i.e. and have more correction). Personnaly, I think it was because

of a poor adjustment early on that resulted in a sharp ridge inside

the foam where the shaved out area met an unshaved area. Halfway

through treatment it caused a skin breakthrough; the subsequent

correction released her pressure points sooner.

I think her original growth slowed down between 9-12mo because my

daughter was returning to her genetic size. (I had gestational

diabetes, so although she wasn't born large, she was probably larger

then she would have been without the diabetes.) Anyway, we're

starting her 2nd band (@16 mo) after a 3 month break. Unfortunately,

in between we missed a hugh growth spurt that occurred when she

started to walk.

So I guess I'm saying, growth could occur at anytime, you just have

to hope it's when your daughter is in her band. Don't worry about

that now, just try to get her interested in eating a variety of foods

before she reaches that picky toddler stage!
