Guest guest
I've been meaning to say how beautiful Kady is, thanks for adding the " cute face " photo, what a doll!!!! Let me answer some of your questions below your questions... > > Did your baby spit up excessively before treatment? A)No, I've never heard of excess spit up & plagio being related, has your Dr. ever mentioned " reflux " ? The spit up has nothing to do with plagio. > Did your baby's head change from a more one sided flatness to a > complete back flatness? A) No, is there still flatness on one of her sides as well as the back of her head? Maybe the back of her head has flattened some with yuor repositioning efforts? > Did you have to get a catscan or head x-ray? Would that be the > referral to the neuro? A) Yes, Abby had Xrays done at 6 wks of age to rule out cranio, this is a good thing to have done to be safe & sure that your child does not have cranio.. I highly suggest getting this done, just to be safe. Abby's ped. referred her for the Xrays first, then after that referred us to a ped. neuro. for an evaluation and recommendation for a band. I hope you see some improvment over the next month with repositioning. Good luck and please keep us updated! Guest guest
just had a cat scan done at 10 1/2 mos. We've been asking our doctor about it since he was about 3 or 4 mos. We did our best to reposition - without any kind of guidance like you can get here and although it hasn't gotten any worse - it certainly hasn't gotten any better. I should also mention that was sitting up by 5 mos, and even before that he loved the exersaucer and jhonny jump up and so didn't spend a lot of time on his head during the day. Hence, I believe the comment that it'll round out on its own once they're sittin up/rolling over/crawling, is a bunch of hooey (if you will). The cat scan wasn't a big deal, although I was very scared about it. The sedative they give is NOT a general anesthesia. It is an oral (or suppository) medication that has the side effect of extreme drowsiness. fell asleep with the lowest possible dose - they start out low and add a little every 1/2 hr till they fall asleep (up to a maximum based on the baby's weight and age) It really was very easy (for us). I, too, recommend the scan - just to be 100% sure. I am glad we did it. It also helps if you have to see a bunch of different drs (like we have) in order to get the rx for a band. Each time I had to make a new appt, I had to wait several weeks, then when the scan was finally ordered, it took a couple weeks to get that appt - this way you have it done up front. Plus, you can be doing active repositioning while waiting to have the scan and evaluation. I do remember that spit up a lot more as an infant than my 4 year old did at that age - whether or not its related, I don't know. Good luck to you and keep us posted! Guest guest
You mentioned a lot of spitting up. Does Kady have reflux (GER)? Both of my kids had it and outgrew it at about 8 months. Dane didn't have a CT Scan. The ped could tell he didn't have craniosynotosis. He is 11 months old and his soft spot is about as big as a quarter. His flat spot was on the right side. Does Kady have torticollis? Dane's mom DOC Grad -- In Plagiocephaly@y..., " sheilae98 " <sheilae98@y...> wrote: > Well, we went to the new peds today. Guest guest
It seems to me that if you baby's head changed from flatteness on the side (plagiocephaly) to flatteness across the whole back (bracheocephaly) that maybe the side flattening was present at birth and the back flattening from lying on firm surfaces after birth. (My daughter has both of these head shapes. If you can, I would suggest just going ahead and getting the referral without the catscans or x-rays. Some specialists are knowledgeable enough about the subtle differences between positional plagio & lamboid cranio that they can make a diagnosis without an x-ray or Ct scan. BTW, if you have a choice, you might want to check for specialists in your area that are 'plagio friendly' (see www.plagiocepahly.org or www.cappskids.org). Generally, these are doctors who will consider both banding and repositioning as viable treatments. Some specialists are just anti-band. - > Did your baby spit up excessively before treatment? > Did your baby's head change from a more one sided flatness to a > complete back flatness? > Did you have to get a catscan or head x-ray?
