Guest guest
- You might want to hang in OKC for a few days because it may take a few tries the first week to get the perfect fit. You use Isopropyl Alcohol on the band to clean it nightly and to cut down on the stink! Perhaps Lucas is geting the type of STAR Band that peels away. I don't know anything about that, so maybe you don't use alcohol on it.???? I'm sure they will teach you how to put on the band. It is quite simple. Just don't pull the velcro. Lie it down. Happy trails! Dane's mom DOC Grad > I do not remember who (it may have been Marci???) but someone advised me to plan on staying in OKC a few days since we are a 5-6 hour drive away. I called the orthotists office to ask about this and they basically said there was no real reason for that, but they would go ahead and see me 2-3 days after receiving the helmet to make sure everything is okay, no chaffing etc before we head home. Lucas will be gettting a starband. We were given the option of having a pattern/design on our band, went with a transportation theme. Did anyone else do that? > Is there anything specific I need to ask them about when we go to get the helmet? I asked them about using alcohol and letting it dry in the sun and they thought I was nuts. What thinks do I need to be aware of and watch for? Is it fairly easy to learn how to put it on and take it off? Nobody here has ever heard of plagio or tort, so I feel like a I am in a totally foreign place. > My DH can not go with me so I will be taking the boys by myself, ugh, it will be a long drive. > > Caleb 2 and Lucas 6mths ( soon to be in a starband)
Guest guest
: It is a good idea to stay over night if you have a long drive for your first day in the band. Only because it can be difficult and take some time to get that perfect fit, so often, not always, a few trips back to the orthotist's for some adjusting here & there is needed. I had about a 4 hr one way drive for Abby's DOCband, we did not stay over night in Chicago when we got her band. We rec'd her band pretty early in the morning and stayed in town for the afternoon to go back to the clinic to make sure there weren't any red spots or any adjustments needed to be safe. We stayed in Chicago for about 8 hrs that day I think, we went shopping & stuff. You should ask your orthotist how often you should do red spot checks over the first couple of days. When Abby rec'd her STARband we did one hr on, one hr off for the first day, then 3 hrs on , 3 hrs off, etc.... Slowly working up to full time. The band is very easy to put on & take off, you won't have any difficulty with that. The transportation theme sounds so cute! Several members have gotten their STARband with a theme design on it. Can't wait to see pictures. Do you have a friend or any other family member who could travel wtih you to get the band? Uggg, I feel bad for you having to drive SO far and long with 2 kids all by yourself.....make sure you at least have a cell phone with you. Gotta go, Abby's pulling me Good luck.
