Guest guest
Thanks, Beck!!! I am glad he can go with me. He has been such a source of comfort to me through this. He's always been the strong one and he is just as worried as I am but he is my rock. We had to take her to the clinic tonight because she just wasn't acting right. Well, she's got her first ear infection and is on antibotics now. The main reason for telling you all this is the doctor put her on her tummy to check her out and the first thing he said was ""my, her head is pretty flat". I then proceeded to tell him about the plagio and tort and that we were seeing a neuro soon. He seemed quite pleased that I was on top of it. It made me feel good and I was glad to know that I was not just looking for something to be wrong. Taryn 's mom Re: 's neurosurgery appt. Keeping our fingers crossed Taryn. Guest guest
You know I will!! Taryn 's mom 's neurosurgery appt. I just called this morning and set up 's appt. with the chief pediatric neurosurgeon at The University of Chicago. It is set for Sept. 26 at 11:00 a.m. Luckily my husband has vacation time coming so he won't have to miss out on pay for work. I am so excited and can't wait to get her evaluated. I found this doctor's name off the CAPPS web site. He was listed as a doctor who refers for helmet therapy. Please keep your fingers crossed and I will keep everyone updated. Guest guest
Taryn, Do you think this Doc would write you the rx for the band/helmet? My pediatrician was the one wrote the prescription for the DOC band, not my neuro (he didn't have a clue). You are a great mom to be so on top of this!!!!! Guest guest
Taryn, The fact that this office has heard of tort and plagio, is definetly a good thing!! It reminds me of my hunt for a pt office, and when I said, " torticollis " , they said, " tuberculosis? " - I said, no, torticollis, she says, " hold on, I have to look that up " - no thanks!!!! Just remember that you are a great mom, that's why your here sharing your concern with strangers to try and get answers for . Your doing a great job at it too! Keep up the good work and of course keep us posted on the 26th appt. ) ' Mom
Guest guest
He was just a family practice doctor in the Urgent Care Clinic we went to. I don't know if he would consider it but it could be an option. We will see what happens with the neurosurgeon when we go on the 26th. Thanks for saying I am a great mom...sometimes I feel like I am failing by not getting things done quicker. It just always seems that we are at someone else's mercy regarding this whole situation and no one takes it as seriously as we do. I am confident that this neurosurgeon will know as he is versed in plagio and refers for helmets. Keep your fingers crossed. In fact, when I called to make the appt. the secretary seemed to know exactly what I was talking about when I said she had tort and plagio. She didn't ask me to spell them!!! Guest guest
LOL...I deal with spelling tort and plagio all the time and people have no clue what I am talking about when I mention she has this condition. That's where we come in for educating people about these conditions...and I want everyone to know I am now a member of the head police!!! I look at babies' heads all the time and ask people if they tilt or not and if they have noticed any flattening, etc. I believe we all have to resign ourselves that this is going to happen for the rest of our lives. I don't blame you for not wanting to go to that doc's office. That is too funny that she said tuberculosis...it's a wonder she even knew what that was!! Thanks for alll the encouragement and support. Without you guys I think I would be going crazy by now. I will definitely keep you posted and I know in my heart I am doing the right thing. What kind of parents would we be if we just settled on someone telling us something isn't there when we know deep down that something is wrong. I respect each and everyone one of you guys for continuing on this journey and getting the care your children need. You should all be very proud of the loving, nuturing parents you are. Guest guest
You're just so nice - I want to cry! I'm such a goober about the dorkiest things. Do you really ask people in public about their children? Because you know, I have wanted to go up to more than one person and say something - either about their babies head or tort - but I never do - I always think, oh that's not my place. But then I think, maybe this poor woman has no clue, and her ped has never said anything (as most of us have learned, many don't), and maybe it would help her. I would have liked someone to say something to me. I don't know, I just see babies heads who are worse than Vivian, with obvious facial assymetry, and I just can't believe they don't have a helmet on! And the other day I saw a woman who's baby could not lift it's head off of it's shoulder, and I wanted to go up to her so badly! What do you say? Just curious - maybe I could do it. --- Taryn Schilling <devynskye1@...> wrote: > LOL...I deal with spelling tort and plagio all the > time and people have no clue what I am talking about > when I mention she has this condition. Guest guest
I only give credit where credit is due and you people are the greatest for continuing on this long and difficult journey just for the sake of our children and giving them the best start in life. That is something that shouldn't be taken lightly and every person here should be commending themselves for. I haven't asked strangers but I have mentioned something to friends if I notice something that doesn't look right. A friend of mine had a baby in July and she had a slight tilt that I noticed so I brought it to her attention and told her to keep an eye on it. I haven't gotten the courage to go up to a stranger but I don't hesitate with family or friends. It just makes you want to cry, doesn't it, when you see a child with severe flattening or facial asymmetry or tort and the parents are doing nothing? Guest guest
My heart does break - I just think, oh if they only knew! Children are so innocent and deserve to have absolutely the best, and if we don't help them get that chance, who will? It still is hard to believe that some parents just don't notice these things. --- Taryn Schilling <devynskye1@...> wrote: > I only give credit where credit is due and you > people are the greatest for continuing on this long > and difficult journey just for the sake of our > children and giving them the best start in life. > That is something that shouldn't be taken lightly > and every person here should be commending > themselves for. Guest guest
I guess over time people will get more educated about it. Maybe we should just be bold and ask people if they have gotten it looked at. Maybe that's the only way to get more people educated....get them concerned that this could happen to their children.
