Guest guest
Ori, Welcome to the group!!! Sorry I am not familiar with the Stanford team, hopefully someone from that area can chime in there. In our experience, we were sent to a neuro only because my son also had torticollis (tight neck muscle that limits ability to turn in one direction, usually a tilted posture is also typical). My neuro did not talk with me about plagio, and my Doctor dismissed it. Finally I did ask for a referral for the DOC band by 4 months from my son's ped, and she gave it to me without question. If you have tried repositioning Gus and have kept him off the back of his head as much as possible and are still not seeing any improvement, you might want to start researching a band, or helmet. We found the DOC band (an active band that applies minimal pressure to the skull for remolding) very beneficial. You can talk with your pediatrician about this option, but don't be surprised if you hear negative comments regarding its use. Check the database for a comparison table on all helmets/bands (there are some areas that have local orthotists making helmets, as well as STARbands). My advice to you is to research this as much as possible, check out Cranial Technologies for before and after photos and great FAQ's about plagio. Optimum time to use the DOC band is from 5-8 months, but they will band up to 2 yrs old, just keep in mind that growth slows down considerably by around 1, but many can attest to great improvement even after that time, I think mainly due to it being an active band treatment. Stick with this group for great advice and support, you are not alone! There are members all over the world that can relate to your experience and can help you avoid any pitfalls that they have come up against, or are currently going through. Good luck to you and don't hesitate to pick the brains of this board for everything that comes to mind!
