My daughter, Abby wore both the STARband & DOCband. She first wore

the STARband at age 8 mos.. I never quite felt right about the fit

of Abby's STARband. It was very assymetrical, it always looked like

it needed to be shifted to the right some. To make a VERY long story

short, Abby wore her STARband for 3 mos with NO improvement at all,

in fact, the STARband dented in her skull on what was the good side

of her head from incorrect pressures the STARband put on that side of

her head. Needless to say, we were and still are bothered by this.

We wasted 3 mos of very valuable growing in the band that we could

never get back. We terminated her treatment at age 11 mos.

After that we decided to try the DOCband. We traveled 4 hrs one way

bi weekly for the DOCband. Abby's plagio was severe, but we were

still able to get 50-60% correction of her plagio with one band for

4.5 mos time. I am SO very pleased with the DOCband

The problem we had with the STARband was an untrained orthotist. He

wasn't experienced in treating plagio babies, this was obvious when

he put foot orthotic pad inside Abby's band, this wasn't supposed to

be used on the head! You can see Abby's STARband photos in our files

section, then " getting a good fit " .

As others have replied to you, the key to success or failure with the

bands or helmets, is a trained & experienced orthotist. That is why

I highly suggest thoroughly interviewing the orthotist who'll be in

charge, ask for before & after photos of babies he has treated, and

ask for references.

All DOCband technicians have gone through several weeks of training

before they are allowed to treat plagio babies with the DOCband. The

orthotists of the DOCband treat ONLY plagio babies with their

product, that is their speciality.

The STARband orthotists also treat other types of patients with foot

orthotics, legs, etc.etc..

Your daughter was just casted for the STARband right?

I hope this helps, I'm not trying to scare you, but I do feel parents

need to be aware of stories like mine to possibly prevent this from

happening to anyone else.
