Guest guest
Only a very small percentage of people taking tenofovir (as Viread, Truvada, or Atripla) will get kidney disease, but it is a larger percentage than previously thought. Your doctor (and you!) can monitor your creatinine, which is included in your regular labs. If you are on one of these drugs, you should probably also have your doctor add a urinalysis at least once a year to check for protein in your urine. I have some kidney dysfunction from a drug taken to treat CMV years ago, and the severity of it wasn't identified until I had a urinalysis as part of a study I was in. I'm willing to bet that routine urinalysis will soon be standard of care for those on tenofovir. Re: Tenefovir and Kidney Disease Posted by: "hoppefaith@..." hoppefaith@... bjncarlsbad Thu Feb 16, 2012 1:28 pm (PST) I;ve been reading these posts.. Might it now be time to drop atripla and switch to some other leading regimen without the tenofovir? Or would checking the lab levels that show the problem, be enough to prevent problems?
