Omega 3s, Inheriting OCD, Solutions that work for me and CBT Question...

I started my 12 year old daughter yesterday with 2 capsules a day. I don't want

to put her on prozac so I'm hoping this will help her. My son also has OCD, not

as bad as she does, but sometimes does the counting and touching when he gets

really stressed. My daughter leaves pile of her clothes on the floor in her

room, since she changes her clothes a lot (so we have a lot of washing) and

washes her hands alot until they are dry. I changed to bars of soap since I

can't afford refilling the liquids. She doesn't lke bringing her friends over

or going to their houses for fear of having obsessive inappropriate thoughts.

I also have OCD and didn't like the affect it, prozac, had on my memory and made

me somewhat 'numb' in regards to emotions. I went through the initial OCD clinic

with testing with (can't remember her name but she was British) years ago

at Stanford University. In my opinion, it's obviously inherited. My kids have

both had streppe before, so perhaps kids of parents with OCD are prone to

'getting' it if they contract the virus.

I'm so busy now that my OCD thoughts don't bother me as much. I still do

checking in the kitchen at night, doing 'one round' of checking around the room

and NOT going back to check. Meaning, there's the microwave, outlet, another two

outlets, the stove, oven and fridge. My checking 'round' entails telling myself

the following, starting with the microwave: off (microwave), microwave/no plug

(for microwave plug, unplugged (for double outlet), light/unplugged (for outlet

and nightlight so folks can see in the kitchen at night, off/off/off/off (for

the stove), off/off (over -2 dials) and closed (for fridge and freezer.) Funny

how we all know that it's all so dang silly yet, what can I say. That one

'round' and forcing myself to go upstairs to bed does the trick. I used to keep

checking continuously, years ago, and it would get me so angry at myself. If

I'm interrupted though during the one sequence, I have to start over. Otherwise,

if I take a deep breath, do one round then leave, I'm fine and forget about the

dang house burning down thoughts that I so don't like having.

Oh, once, believe it or not, I had a toaster happened to be on the recall list

because it supposedly could turn on by itself if left plugged in. Ha. NOT a

good thing for someone like me to hear! Using my crockpot is a feat in and of

itself. But, I use it because I love it.

Also being heavily influenced by the Abraham-Hicks/Louise Hay positive thinking.

It REALLY helps. Sort of like CBT where it's helping me be more positive about

life. I'm separated from my husband which would usually have me in tears and

stressed. Now I'm to the point of, oh well, if my perfect man (what's perfect

in my world) is there, waiting in my 'emotional escrow' as Abraham-Hicks states,

then he'll be there for me, whether it's my husband or not. Anyways, I think I

have reprogrammed my brain to be more positive by a large margin and it helps

with my stress levels which in turn helps with my OCD. And, if I'm less

stressed, then it's beneficial for my kids as well.

Anyways, I'm hoping the capsules will help my daughter since the Kaiser doctor

just talks and doesn't seem to know much about the OCD/CBT and he's the third

one we've seen. Still looking for someone in Santa Clara County.

Recommendations?
