Hello,

I don't live in the Tucson area, I'm outside of Boston but your case is sooooooo much like mine. My son's pediatrician completely brushed off the fact that his head was so flat in the back from laying down all the time, my son has low muscle tone and is ten months and still doesn't sit up. He is in early intervention for that but his pedi should have done something about his low muscle tone and the fact that his head is so flat by now! The surgeon we saw last week said that had severe head flattening in the back. Which it is. Completely flat. Looks like a pancake in the back of his head. I'm in the process of switching pediatricians TODAY.. I'm so angry because as we can and hopefully will get some result with the band, we would have had a lot better result if this was taken care of sooner. gets his band this Friday. Good Luck and keep me posted on how you make out.

Tara,

I just wanted to let you know that my daughter Sara sounds similar to . She has low muscle tone as well and was referred for ECI because she was not sitting up on her own at 9 months. She would sit if I put her in sitting position, but she couldn't get there herself. We've been working with ECI for about 3-4 weeks, and last Wednesday she started getting herself into sitting postion. It's been 5 days and she's now a pro. She also pulls up to standing and creeps along the sofa. She will be 11 months old on the 16th. It won't be long now for to be doing all those things as well. Watch out - it happens fast!

Do I remember right? Did you go through fertility treatments to have ? All my children were conceived through in vitro fertilization, so I've been there. We are so blessed to have these little angels in our lives!!!

Hi ,

Just wanted to welcome you to the group and let you know that a lot of us have been "dismissed" by our Doctors, myself included, so your not alone on that front. My ped never officially said the word plagiocephaly either, and just recently we saw another ped from the group who said, "what's that?" when I told her the background of my son's health problems. I hope that you can find a Doctor that will address your concerns and take this serious if you feel that it is. I know that Cranial Technologies has their main headquarters in Phoenix, so I would call them and see if they could recommend a band friendly Doc. Check them out at Cranial Technologies for a complete list of offices/numbers- as well as great FAQ's and before and after photos. Good luck to you, your a great mom for taking this matter into your own hands and keep fighting the good fight as I like to say! Keep us posted on how its going.

I hope things start getting better and that you can find a new ped that is plagio friendly. I can't offer much advice as we just started on this journey ourselves but I know with perseverance and patience you will get your son taken care of.

Ignorant pediatrician in Tucson

Hello,I am new to this group but was wondering if anyone else has had the same problems my husband and I have had with our son. He is our first child and after he was born, we used to lay him on the floor a lot and sometimes he would be looking at the television, which caused the left side of his head to become flat. We pointed this out to our pediatrician at around 4-5 months of age, and he more or less dismissed it, telling us to just watch it and see if it gets better. He never did officially diagnose him with plagiocephaly but through my own personal research, I believed that it is what my son had. His had has gotten a lot better than it was, though it is still kind of flat on the left side. His ears are positioned correctly and he does not have a bulge on the left side of his forehead, but I would still like something to be done. So I am finally going to try to take him to see a pediatric neurologist, though I hope it is not too late to do something because my son is now a year old. I called to try and get an appt. but they didn't have anything until the end of October! That is totally ridiculous so I am not going to try and find a different pediatrician to see if she can just give me a direct prescription for banding without having to go to the neurologist. Even at his 1 year appt. last week the Dr. casually mentioned how he looked "top heavy", meaning that his head looked big, and I thought that was a pretty rude statement in itself. I am definitely now changing to a different pediatrician and was wondering if anyone else has had any luck with good pediatricians in Tucson, AZ, especially anyone who is familiar with plagiocephaly. This whole process is so frustrating! Thanks for letting me vent. For more plagio info
