Guest guest
Hello, About a weeks ago we got two of Katya's molds from Cranial Technologies. As many of you know, Katya started the DOC band treatment when 14 months old and graduated at 18.5 months old. She had moderate plagio. Unfortunately, CT didn't give us any information on how much of a correction she got, and from speaking with Charlotte at Paramus office in New Jersey I got the understanding that they never give this kind of info (I mean - percentage of correction). When I compare the molds I see that the shape of Katya's head almost didn't change. The only change that I see is that the edges of the flat areas became smoother. By the way, the size of a head didn't change over this 4.5 months. I think this is a major reason why we didn't get a lot of improvement. Katya's head was in 95% when she started the treatment. I don't think it grew at all over those 4.5 months of treatment. I always heard that there are lots of parents of older kids (13-15 months of age) on this board that got great improvement , but for some reason I never had a chance to talk to them. If any of them are reading this message, please get back to me. I am just very curious about your results. Thank you, Leana, Katya's mom (almost 20 months old, DOC band graduate)
Guest guest
Leana, We never had an official percentage given to us after completion either, just a guess of correction visually. If you can see that the edges are not as prominent, that's a great sign that there has been some change, even though you feel it is minimal. I would hope that the band at least started her headshape growing in the correct way, with many months ahead to gain for it completing to round a bit. My friend's son had severe brachy and they did not band, I saw him last weekend and his headshape has rounded a bit towards the top, definetly not as bad as it was. We also feel that has rounded out a bit more since banding. I have a hard time seeing things on the head mold- it didn't look quite as severe looking at it recently for some reason. I took someone's advice and let it lay on the counter, it just rolled straight to the right, which confirmed to me that it was that bad. Otherwise, I might have second guessed that it was (except his ears were very misaligned, had facial asymmetry, so these things were obvious- but the flat spots didn't look as bad as they actually were, I think). In any event, Katya has had some improvement, so that's great!!!! Keep us posted- it would be great to hear that you have seen additional improvement on its own- and I hope other members with older babies can share their thoughts with you on their outcomes as well. Congrats to Katya on graduating!!!! ' Mom
