Guest guest
I know it isfrsutrating but just focus on the growth-he is growing and there is shaving going on and it is a wait and see game. I know it is hard because you want it to be perfect NOW and for all of this to be done but he is making great progress. Cross the next hurdle when you come to it. You are doing a great job mommy keep it up! Beck
Guest guest
Thanks Beck! It is very hard. And yes..i want it to be better now..LOL. It's frustrating..but i know i have to be positive and happy that there is growth. I guess i just hate that this even happened to him in the first place...and i'm thankful that the band doesn't bother him at all..but i want it to be done and to be able to see 's head..not a helmet...you know? I know..i have to start taking it a little at a time..and not think about how long it's going to take and all that. Thanks though.... Guest guest
Gail, THANK YOU!! Your email was an inspiration to me...made me feel so much better.... I am going to try to remain positive. I know i have to think about today and not months from now... I also just realized how his left front got flat. I was trying to figure it out..and it just popped in my head that it's b/c for 2 months we put him to sleep on his left side every night (b/c his right back was flat and the dr had told us to do this)...and so we made that side flat too. I feel guilty....but i listened to the cranial dr. And i even remember saying that i bet that side will get flat now..and everyone said no it won't. But i know it doesn't help to blame myself..and you are so right..that even right now his head is already gettign better. So i will try to stay positive and look forward to his round head!! Thanks so much Gail! As a twin he was stuck in a transverse/breech position with his head stuck under my ribs for most of the pregnancy, so we had "ways" to go as well. Sam wore his band for 7 weeks before he outgrew it and got probably 75% correction. If will be able to wear his band for 3-4 months, then I would say that you have nothing to worry about. The folks at CT know what they are doing!!! Even if had to stop wearing his band today he would still look better than when you started. Please remind yourself that any progress at all is fantastic progress and is lucky to have you for a mommy. Let's hope for a big growth spurt in the next 2 weeks and more rounding to put your mind at ease. Guest guest
, I think overall you had great news!!!! The fact that they had to shave anything means growth is happening, and that's awesome! If you went in and nothing was shaved, that would be bad news. Try not to worry so much about how long will have to wear it- it really is a guessing game because so much can happen in 3-4 months, that it might very well be all the time he needs, even considering the various flat spots. My son also had a few of those issues going on and I was so worried also about being in the band for so long- we actually graduated earlier than expected! Just know that it will be for at least 3-4 months, and you've already gotten the first one pretty much down- WOO-HOO! And I'm sure the past 3 weeks have flown by for you, soon you'll be looking back at this chapter and saying, wow, where did the time go?! It's a relatively short time, that can sometimes feel like forever if you start worrying about the next band- so keep it all in perspective and don't worry so much!!! Your doing a great job, is doing great, and don't lose hope that one band will do the trick- you just never know! Hang in there! Guest guest
, That is sooo true. If i would've gone there and they didn't shave anything..that would be really bad news to me....so i am very happy about that. And you are right too that a lot can happen in 3-4 months...and the fact that he will get correction is so great. I'm sure i'll have more days like yesterday where i start to get down..but overall i know we are doing the right thing...and am happy we are able to do this for him. Thanks so much!! (Boy am I grateful for this list and all of you!) Mom to In a message dated 9/6/2002 8:20:20 AM Pacific Daylight Time, rella1234@... writes: , I think overall you had great news!!!! Gail, Sam and Sara's mom, DOC grads 's appt Well, we had our appt today at cranial tech.It was good and bad.The good part was..that Charlotte said that had growth and the flat side in the back is not as angled. So that was good. She shaved some away..said that she shaved enough that he has plenty of growth room and so we go back in 2 weeks. The not so good part..(well maybe just discouraging to me) is that she had the pictures that she took at the first visit....all the different profiles...and she said that has ways to go. He has a flat spot in the back right (which is where she said is looking better) and then he has a flat spot on the left front..and that's where he needs to grow a lot...and he has height in the back (which we knew) so she said that at the end they will lift a little of the front so it wouldn't be so noticeable. She had told me in the beginning when i asked how long she thought he would be in the helmet to ask her in 4 weeks...well it's been 3 weeks and so i asked if she can tell how long it will be...and she said no...she can't tell b/c he has ways to go and she said it's easier to tell when there is only one flat spot..but he has a couple...so that was pretty discouraging. But when i asked her last time if she thinks he will need a second band...she said she can't say for sure..but would be surprised if he would. So now i don't know...and that would mean that he would wear it for 4 months max....if he didn't need a second band. And when i said that Dr Hall had said probably 8 weeks...and i guess it will not be 8 weeks but would be more..she kind of avoided that...so i don't know. But he's wearing it for 3 weeks..and she did say he had growth like i said..in the back and also she did say he had some growth up front too..so i guess that's good....Mom to For more plagio info
Guest guest
, About the left front flattening... don't blame yourself for that. If he has flattening on the right back, then there is probably some bossing on the right front, which would make the left front appear flat. It is the classic " parallelogram " shape that plagio babies get. My son is the same way, flat on the right back and on the left front, and bossed on the right front. I don't think it is anything that you did to cause the flattening in the front (or the back for that matter). So be positive, and things will all round out in the end! , Mom to and (plagio/tort) > Gail, > > THANK YOU!! Guest guest
, You're welcome. After I sent that email I wondered if I was too insensitive. It is much easier for me now that I can look back on my experience. I just hope you can be reassured that is making progress, and it will not be on your time frame, but is totally dependent on your compliance with having him wear the band 23 hours per day and him making the most of growth spurts. Everything will be fine. Gail Re: 's appt Gail,THANK YOU!! Your email was an inspiration to me...made me feel so much better....I am going to try to remain positive. Guest guest
Gail, No...i didn't find your email insensitive...i had a weak moment..i'm sure i'll have more. But it helps to get advice from you guys... Yea...so far we've been lucky in that hasn't had any problems with the helmet..so he wears it 23 hours a day....so hopefully that will make his head round!!
