Well, once again we have stepped into the relatively unknown with my son Tommy. Today I took him to see his ped. to get a referral to Special Children's clinic and also to see why he was eating cardboard and paper-I though maybe he had pica or some other nutritional deficiency. His Dr. agreed with me that he needs PT again, because his tort is regressing a bit and his R. side is less developed. That was fine, I was expecting that. What I was not expecting was her telling me that his eating cardboard (not just chewing, but actually swallowing it like it was candy) was more in line with obsessive-compulsive disorder. She asked me a few more questions about his habits and it seems that a lot of the things he does which I thought were merely "cute" are actually not normal toddler behavior. She thinks he has Tourette's Syndrome and is getting Tommy a referral to see a neurologist for an official diagnosis.I don't know why I didn't see this coming-I was diagnosed with Tourette's when I was 19 and my DH has ADD. Most of the people in my family have some kind of Obsessive-Compulsive disorder (NEVER fold my mother's sheets in her house, only she can do it right!) but I never thought that either of my sons would have to deal with it.I'm so depressed. I don't want my son to go through what I went through. He's so bright and he's been through so much already.I went websurfing but I can't find any useful information. It's frustrating. Thanks for letting me vent.Jill RamosFor more plagio info

I am sorry to hear about your findings about Tommy. I hope everything goes well and you can get the treatment he needs. The one thing I tell myself about having any conditions I do (I have asthma along with my FIL and SIL so I worry with her) is that I don't like the fact that she might have them but if she does I will know how to handle it because I have dealt with it firsthand for so many years. Keep your chin up and please keep us posted. A good search engine for any medical conditions and medical information is www.google.com You may be able to find some info here. Happy searching!!

Jill-

I am sorry to hear about what might be going on with

Tommy. I know it just must feel the worst to know

your child may have a condition that you have been

dealing with yourself- It's like you know how hard it

is and what to expect - and you just don't want your

child to have to go through the same things.

But then again, you do know what to expect and how to

deal with these things, so you are all the better

person to be his mother. Because of your experience

you will be able to help him in ways that another

could not. You know what to expect and what to do.

I know this may be easy for another person to say, but

I just want you to know that we will all be thinking

of you and Tommy.
