Hi I am new to the group. My 6 almost 7 yr. old has been diagnosed

with ADD and OCD. He was taking Straterra and seeing a behavior

therapist. He was on the meds for 4 months and we discontinued the

meds today since he has started having many temper tantrums in school

and at home and on Wednesday he bit a classmate and was sent home. His

Dr. said that his aggression could be from the meds. since it is a

possible problem with Straterrs. Last yr in Kinder. the teacher said

that he was not focused and could not follow directions. We took him

to Children's to be evaluated and he was then diagnosed. We have

tried several meds. and nothing seems to work. This yr. he still isn't

paying attention or focusing and now has behavior problems. His grades

are good. Luckily he has a teacher who previously taught special ed.

and she is wonderful. The tantrums are getting worse. I don't know

what to do for my child.

Hi Cheryl,

Has your son been on any SSRI's without any relief?

I have two kids here with OCD, and my daughter(11) has Bipolar, and the ADHD

symptoms. I have a ds(6) diagnosed with OCD and mood disorder nos , and ADHD

symptoms. I have been dealing with massive temper tantrums and rages for 9 years

now. I completely understand your frustration. I was blessed with one dd(12) who

has never tantrumed in her life. The other two never stop!!!!!

Hugs

Hi Cheryl,

My dd (11 yo) had out of control rage tantrums prior to medication,

she has been on zoloft 50mg for 4 months, about 8 weeks after we

started the meds the tantrums all but disappeared, the longer we go

and with weekly therapy we are seeing consistant progress.

Hope you find relief soon, I know how you feel.

Best wishes,

Melinda

The tantrums may well be from the medication, or a combo of

medication and just dealing with the ocd. We have had a lot of

anger/aggression issues just aroung the ocd. Also watched behavior

change with medication increases of ssri. Is your son receiving

other treatment besides medication?

It is not fun! Hang in there.
