Guest guest
Hi, . I found these (OCD support groups in the UK) listed on the OCFoundation.org website. You could try calling some of them (if any are close to you) to ask if they can recommend some qualified therapists. I did that in my state here in the US. They were very helpful and that is how I tracked down my son's current therapist. I just kept asking for recommendations from everyone I talked to and checked them all out until I found someone who truly knew what they were doing. OCD can make one tired.. .. People who love the one who have it and the one who has to endure it. I remember our son saying at times that it was exhausting to try to keep track of everything that was going on inside his head. Poor kiddo. But, our son has made progress since he has been seeing a therapist that knows and uses CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) for OCD, and ERP (exposure and response prevention). He has been able to let go of some of the rituals and live without them. Your message sounds so desperate. I know that feeling. Many in here do. I hope you find someone that can help. In the mean time, if you haven't already read some books on OCD, there are some really good ones out there. Some authors that come to mind are Aureen Wagner, March, and Tamar Chansky. Their books will help you understand what you and your son are dealing with and that can help a lot. Glad that you found us and you are here. There are many who know what you are feeling, because many have been in the same place. This is a great place to share information and get support. Guest guest
Hello and welcome. Big Hug to you! It sounds like you are having a very tough time, it can all be exhausting. My son is 16 and we have also gone through much difficulty the past couple of years with this illness. With regard to school, I understand the concern around this, but one thing at a time is a good approach. Hard I know. If his illness is not under control school can be very hard if not impossible, it was so for our son and he had to leave. It may be that he needs a different or additional medication to help with his " anti social behavior " . Not sure what is available to you where you are but there might be a hospital based program. We had a violent incident with our son that ended in hospitalization and a referral to a hospital based day program for youth dealing with behavior based problems. This may not be what is needed at all in your case, just thought I would share that as possibility. What is your son's behavior like at home? I ask because we ended up with safety issues at home with our son. It is not always an easy thing to talk about. I felt a lot of shame. If this is something you are dealing with I would be happy to communicate on or off-line with you. There are many here to talk to if that would help.
