Guest guest
Hello all, I had an appointment this Wednesday for my son to get casted for his new helmet, but was called today to say that they need to cancel and make his appointment for Friday instead. Kind of disappointing because I wanted to get it over with and it didn't help that the woman on the phone said " Your son is going to cry the whole time, almost all the kids that come in to get casted cry " . I think she was just the receptionist or something but thought it wasn't a very nice comment to make. We're going through a place called Hanger Orthotics here in Tucson and they make the STAR band, not the DOC band; hopefully they know what they are doing and will make the casting process as stress-free as possible. I " m not looking forward to it but know the end outcome is what matters most. ('s mom-12 months old)
Guest guest
, While its true that most kids don't like the casting process one bit, I have heard Mom's say that their child didn't seem bothered by it at all- mine was not one of them. did great while laying down, but they had him sit up and he was very unhappy. It literally is 10 min. of crying that seems forever, but it is over before you know it, and the kids really are happy campers the minute they aren't being bothered! I think we have some members using Hanger Orthotics, not sure if it was in Tuscon, but I hope that you will get more responses from people using them. I know that a good ortho is key, so ask to see before and after pics of children they have treated, and just really pick their brains about all your concerns. If they are a reputable company that sees success, they will be more than happy to ease your fears and promote their product. Good luck Friday and keep us posted! Try bringing either Dad or someone to help with using comfort items, lollipop, bottle, paci, musical toy, whatever might help distract from the situation, and you or the other person will have to help hold him. Don't worry, sometimes reading about it makes it seem worse than it actually is, hang in there! ' mom
Guest guest
, When was casted, the beginning was just fine...she thought we were playing peek-a-boo when they put the little stocking thing over her head. She was actually giggling. She was okay until she sat up also....I think the heaviness of it might have scared her. I'm going to send some of her casting photos to show you how it looks. Guest guest
: I can understand your disappointment - - you just want to get this done & over with ASAP and be on your way to a rounder head for ! I wonder why she was so rude to you about this too??? Yes, will most likely cry, but remember it doesn't hurt him at all, it just ticks the baby off being held down & such. It's a quick & painless process and within minutes after it's done, will be smiling at you again! Don't worry too much about it (yeah, easy for me to say!), hang tough. Good luck Friday - let us know how it goes.
