Guest guest
Just wanted to let you all know - I asked Vivian's new ped directly for an RX for the band - I didn't take her in- I just called and was like look - " I don't want to bring her in - you've seen her head " " we have talked about this before " . We knew she had plagio and not cranio, and I didn't want to have to go to another specialist to get a referall and waste more time blah blah blah - so he did and she was " scanned/casted " last week. (our old ped was the wait and see type -didn't do anything) Anyway, my hubby takes her in to the ped yesterday to check her ears (we thought she might have an infection) and he took with him a copy of her head scan printout from the helmet appt. The ped says " I am so glad your wife is proactive about these things " , " More mothers need to take action with plagiocephaly " , " She should be commended " . !!!!!!!! He said that he has brought it up to more than one parent that their baby should be referred for a helmet - and they have said no! He also said that the ped community is just not aggressive enough with this. As a matter of fact, he said that the day before he saw a new patient who was 13 months old. He said that when she walked in the door, he could see the asymmetry immediately. It was really bad. He asked her if her old ped had ever discussed helmet therapy with her. She was like " What? " - she had never heard of it. He told her to look at the baby's head from the top. She did right there, and burst out in tears. How sad! I almost cried. This just more than ever affirms how glad I am that I am doing the right thing for Vivian, so I won't have to be this woman, and how great it is that you all are here to support and encourage us as we make this decision. I am also glad there are at least some ped's who won't call us " nutty " for doing so! You all should be commended! & Vivian
