My daughter Cassidy is just a little over 4 months, has left tort,

and a flat spot on her right side. My dr. said that they want to

have us try repositiong her, but I am not sure how to start and what

do I do? She is doing better with tummy time, but is not the biggest

fan of it all the time. I love to go walking, but putting her in the

jogger stroller is out of the question, since I want things to

improve. I have put her in the Baby Bjorn facing out, and she loves

that. She has pretty good neck strength. We go to PT 1x a week for

the tort, and do stretching 2x a day at home.

I am just wanting her to get better, and any help I can get would

really be appreciated.

Thank you very much,

nie Mom of Cassidy 4.1 months

There is a group specially for Torticollis..

Torticolliskids/messages

You doing the right thing stretching and tummy time. Keep the

baby off the flat side as best you can because it wont round out if

not and it can get worse. It gets harder when they get older because

they re position themselfs to the tort side. I would ask your PT

about doing more home stretching than twice a day. I was told to do 2

long big stretched every dieper change.

When feeding the baby put them in the high chair and make them

stretch the way they need to to have the food. Put the TV on or turn

them so they have to strech to see you or the TV (alot better than

you doing it). In the car position the car seat on the window side

that they are streching to look out of the window. You will think of

other ways to make the child strech on their own. A good stretching

exercise for babies is swimming and at the same time sneek in

stretches as their enjoying themselfs.

Hope this reply helped a little, good luck.

Hi nie,

Welcome to the group! Cassidy can certainly benefit from repositioning, but

as you know, with tort its very hard. My son's Doc did not recommend the

band, but with his flat spot continuing to worsen, and the tort being severe

and a huge factor, we opted for the DOC band by 5 months old. I would

recommend a month of repositioning, aggressively, and it will not be easy as

you said there are limits to what you can do when trying to keep your child

off the back of the head. Use that month to document with pictures, and see

if there is any change. If in that time it has not changed, or it has

worsened, I would ask for a referral for neurologist. We took matters into

our own hands and just asked for that referral to CT- since we had researched

enough and seemed to have more realistic answers than the Doctors. My Doctor

is forever complimenting my son's head shape and says it was the best

decision! She was of the opinion that his misaligned ears were an optical

illusion due to the head tilt caused by the tort. So, be your child's best

advocate, research, question, don't be afraid to get on your Doctor about

your needs/ concerns, and you will be able to be the best judge of what

should be done for your child's condition- since you will have documented

change/no change. Good luck and keep us posted!
