Guest guest
The doctor knows a lot more than your friends do and you know better how you feel than your friends do. The name of " Rheumatoid Arthritis " is unfortunate because so many people only think of Osteoarthritis when they hear anything called " Arthritis " . Osteoarthritis is much more common and usually comes with age whereas Rheumatoid Arthritis can strike anyone, even preschool children. Few people who do not have Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) really understand it because until it is very advanced there are no external signs for people to see that tell them you are ill. An explanation I like is the " Spoon Theory " http://www.butyoudontlooksick.com/spoons.htm . Please make sure you are treated aggressively with a DMARD (Disease-Modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drug) so that you have a good chance of avoiding permanent joint damage and leading an acitive life. Unfortunately most DMARDs take several weeks to months to become effective and it often takes a year or more to determine the corre! ct drug or combination of drugs and dosages to get proper control. RA does teach patience. My gyn told me the exact same thing a few weeks ago. Inge
