Guest guest
Oh I have a bucket full of autoimmune diseases. They do seem to run together. Probably because they all come from the same source. Be sure she's getting the right treatment for her thyroid disease. Most endocrinologists tend to put you on synthroid and tell you to come back in a year. Synthroid doesn't work for everyone. It sure didn't for me. It wasn't until after 15 years of arguing with doctors and finding a holistic doctor that I was able to get the right medicine. I suggest reading Shomon's book Living Well with Hypothyroidism: What your doctor won't tell you that you need to know. Here's a website for a starting point. http://thyroid.about.com/cs/basics_starthere/a/thyroid101.htm Then there's the arthritis. Henry Scammel's book The New Arthritis Breakthrough is the most helpful I've read. I've been through the traditional meds, which nearly killed me, and now I'm travelling a different route with a medical doctor who has seen the light. In her own words I was " screwed over by the medical profession long enough. " I am doing better, very slowly, but the biggest help was the right thyroid medicine. I urge you to seek out a good doctor who will listen--I've found most don't. Jill
Guest guest
Hello, My whife is affected by hypothyroidism, and this autumn she descovered to be affected also by a light form of AR. As I understand they both have autoimmune origine, I'm quite concerned becasue now I fear that some other autoimmune disease might arise. Does anybody have any experiences about this? Is there any way to treat both desieses from their autoimmune origine instead of treating them separately? Any suggestion will be appreciated Mirko
Guest guest
Many diseases have autoimmune origins and if you get one you are at increased risk for getting another but many people only get one. The chances of getting an autoimmune disease are low so an increased chance is still only a low chance. So far each autoimmune disease is treated individually and no single treatment will treat all of them. This is easy to understand when we think of how complicated the immune system is and even a single autoimmune disease like RA seems to be caused by a variety of autoimmune deficiencies. Medicines for RA act in different ways and some people are helped by medicine A but not by medicine B while others are helped by medicine B but not by medicine A. Unfortunately treatment is a trial and error.
