Heidi,

Just wanted to mention that if you lay your baby on the floor, and massage that entire tort side in a downward motion, especially her leg and hip area, this helps to get the "kink" out of that side, and will help in alleviating the c-posture. My son raised his shoulder, not the hip, but if you use the same strategy you can pull that side down. Also, try putting her between your legs while sitting on the floor, rock back and forth from butt cheek to butt cheek- this may help her feel more comfortable in putting that side down- sometimes tort kids feel off balance, so they pull up that side to compensate. I would strongly recommend massage though, it really helped us. Check out www.torticolliskids for more great tips on fighting the c-shaping!

Good luck!

When you do this does she arch her back?

looks over her head often but always arches her back. Is this

okay or should her back be flat?

goes for her first PT on Wednesday, for now I am doing the

stretches for her nech that the ped gave me.

has full ROM now but tilt has not improved and she is C-ing.

I assume the PT will give me stretches for her body now as well to

get ride of the C-shape.

Thanks

Yes, she arches her back every time. It almost looks like someone or something is pulling her chin down to her chest when she's sitting there. Plus, she just found her feet recently so is always looking at them which isn't good for her neck. The PT told us to work really hard with hanging toys from the ceiling and getting her to look up. Ultimately they should just move their head to look up without having to move their body with it. Please let us know how 's PT appt. goes on Wed. Our PT massages 's trunk to ease the tension there. She also C-shapes although it's gotten so much better with the therapy.

Taryn,

Sounds like you have a GREAT pt! I know some pt's fail to find the link between that SCM and the rest of the body compensating for it- and your pt will definetly be working on that posture sounds like- awesome. pulled up his shoulder and it starting misaligning his rib cage, we had to also do massage downward to release this tension- without working on that, he might have developed upper scoliosis. Keep up the great work, I know its hard, but your getting there!

She has about 10 years experience with children 3 and under and sees about 7 tort cases a week so I am impressed with her. I haven't noticed pulling up her shoulder at all but will be on the lookout for that.
