Tina,

I'm not sure what type of helmet you have, but I haven't heard of too many

people using dish liquid because of the irritation it may cause. We were

told only to use rubbing alcohol, and not anything else as it may cause a

reaction to the skin. Again, your ortho may have instructed you to do this

with countless patients without a problem, so just sharing our experience in

that they did feel it would be an agent that could be an irritant. We also

found that using the alcohol and then drying it in the sun for the hour off

helped to take out some of that stink! Good luck!

The redness could be caused from the helmut. Get the OT to check it right

away! As for the cleaning, I clean ' with an alcohol swab twice

daily. It has some odour, but his OT says by now he usually could pass out

from the smell...Nick has had his for 3 months! I also wash his hair with a

strong scented shampoo like pears or pert plus. Lastly, I sprayed some of my

husbands cologne on the strap.

Hope this helps,

Tina I never heard of dish soap before but I can imagine that is quite

irritating to the skin. Also what are you washing his hair with-try some

really smelly shampoos and leave them on the whole bath time as far as

getting rid of the smell alcohol and a hair dryer or the sun is even better

at heating that stink out of there. You could try a little aquaphor on his

head or cortisone cream. Let us know how you make out!

I wouldn't use the soap at all. In the instructions for the DOC band

it states that using anything other than alcohol can irritate the

little one's skin...
