Guest guest
If you don't mind me asking, Kerri, what did they decide your CP was from? My brother had a collapsed lung at birth and developed it. My mom said he didn't even walk until he was 2 and he limps now as an adult. He never had surgery but went to Shriners as a child and was casted quite often. Taryn 's mom Re: Re: Not so good news/ , has a very good point....I forgot about the age of dx.I was actually dx'ed with CP as a child at 18 months old. 2 surgeries and 28 years later, I'm doing just fine. I walk with a little limp, but most people tell me I am the only one who notices. You may not get a definitive answer on this for a while, if they really think it is CP. Try not to be discouraged. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me directly. Having CP myself, I know a little about it. )Kerri For more plagio info

Guest guest
Sorry to hear that that happened. You said you don't have any residual side affects now? My brother walks with a limp also. I can't move those fingers as fast as those on my right hand...."real" typing is impossible...I'm one of those 1-finger typists. ) I also have some cramping in my leg every now and then, kind of like the muscles are tired and want to stretch but can't. All in all, I am okay though. Kerri
Guest guest
I am glad to hear you are doing well otherwise. CP definitely seems to be a lifelong problem. What kind of surgery have you had? The first at 18mo. was to lengthen the tendons on the back of the calf. The incision was made at the heel and goes up about 6 inches. The second at 7 years was for the same thing, to lengthen the tendons. I have another 6-inch cut next to the first one. That time, however, they also had to go into the arch of the foot and do some lengthening there ...so that surgery was a little more tricky. It was kind of funny...I had a cast from the toe to the hip for 10 weeks. That's a lot for a little kid to lug around. ) Kerri

Honestly, most of the time, the area is numb. That's actually kind of hard to deal with because, for one thing, that's what "helps" the limp. I can't feel the muscles, so I can't make them work. The other problem with the numbness is if I hurt myself or get too cold, I can't feel it. One time, I cut myself pretty badly shaving my legs and had no idea until I found a trail of blood leading to me! On occasion, I do have a few twinges of pain...not sure where they come from. They're almost like "ghost" pains, like memories of the operations. Scars, ah, yes....they're huge and ugly and I am very self conscious about them. They really stand out to me, especially since my calf is so much smaller than the other one. Wearing shorts or skirts is kind of intimidating. You can't miss them and people are forever asking me what happened. Because the surgeries were done so long ago, the technology wasn't the greatest, so I don't have the cleanest scars. The stitch marks are still there, like train tracks. It's funny....the scar from my recent C-section, this one with staples, is neater looking that 25 year old scars on my leg. ) Kerri
Guest guest
Thanks for the info and I bet that was very difficult for you to deal with as a child. I am glad things went well for you and you are functioning as an adult. I know some people who have had surgery and it hasn't made much improvement. Guest guest
It sounds like you have been through a lot in your short life. My heart goes out to you and your mother for enduring what had to be very difficult times when you were a child. Thanks for sharing your story and I wish you the best of luck in the future. I know exactly what you mean about the scar from your section!!!!
