Guest guest
I'm not on antibiotics but I suggest you go to Road Back Foundation at http://www.roadback.org/index.shtml to get a lot of information about it. If I were not well controlled on conventional medicines I would strongly consider it even if I had to get medicines from outside the country. > From: NELLIESTAR@... > Date: 2004/05/21 Fri PM 08:10:14 GMT > Rheumatoid Arthritis > Subject: Antibiotic Therapy > > How hard is it to get stated? > And what does the drug cost? > I am wondering because I have not taken antibiotics in years. Guest guest
Pris, I don't think it is coincidence. I am a believer that RA involves infection in the body. Every time I would get put on antibiotics, my arthritis would seem to get better. I read bood and just got my family doc to give me prescription for Minocin. You must NOT use generic cause it does not work. Minocin cost $100+ a bottle but my insurance helps out and I can get it for $40 for 3 months. I am glad that I chose antibiotic therapy.. Guest guest
I just take Minocin by pill. Book talks about IV for some quicker response but I just use pills. Guest guest
Pris, Had to meet deductible and pay $100 for first bottle (30 pills). I guess it depends on your insurance co. When necessary, I take 2 a day(in a flare), otherwise sometimes just 2 or 3 pills a week. When I first started it, I took it on M-W-F. Now, I space it out more if I can. Guest guest
One theory is that when our bodies have some real inflammation to fight our immune systems get busy on the new threat and slack off on attacking our own bodies. It might not be the antibiotic but the disease that is causing the improvement in RA. Just a thought. Our bodies are so complex that it's very hard to be sure what is causing what. Haven't been sick in 12 years. So it was very strange when I got this raging infection in my mouth and it made my RA and stamina better (or was it antibiotics)? Weird. Pris Teach tricks the EASY way! Guest guest
Kay is there an easy way to do Antibiotic Therapy? From what I saw on the web site you need to be not taking DMARDs and other drugs when you do the antibiotic route but I did not look vary far. If it was just a matter of taking an antibiotic (Minocycline) on top of everything else I am sure my GP would prescribe it for me, but that sounds too easy. It is an attractive idea though because everytime in the past few years that I have needed an antibiotic, my RA has improved and also my sense of wellbeing. Guest guest
Annette, I was weaning off prednisone when starting antibiotic and always stayed on an anti-inflammatory. I would say to check with your doc. Not sure about interaction of taking antibiotic in addition to your other meds. Don't know if all that would work together or not. I also discovered every time I was on antibiotics that the RA improved. My thoughts are that careful diet and antibiotics work together. I also took acidophilus in between Minocin. Guest guest
Thanks Kay, I will look further. I think my doctor doesn't have any experience with antibiotic therapy for RA and as a mother of 5 I'm not sure how much research she will do. I take acidophilus as well as Losec for the GI problems. Unfortunately I started out on Indocid which is about the worst. I tryed no wheat for the weekend (at least a lot less) and thinngs seemed to improve (or maybe it was the Cheetos I gave up - they are probably poison) Annette In Rheumatoid Arthritis , " Kay Simpson " <Siwelyak@f...> wrote: > Annette, > I was weaning off prednisone when starting antibiotic and always stayed > on an anti-inflammatory. Guest guest
Annette, I found some wheat-free products at www.glutensolutions.com They have some pretzels that taste okay. They even have some cookies with very little sugar. You can get stuff at health food stores also. I can get away with Tostitos(corn chips) once in a while. I find diet VERY important. Best of luck to you, Kay ----- Original Message ----- From: " annette2ca " <a.mckinnon@...> <Rheumatoid Arthritis > Sent: Sunday, July 04, 2004 9:25 PM Subject: Re: Antibiotic Therapy > Thanks Kay, > I will look further.
