With an MRI scan it is possible to take pictures from almost every angle, whereas a CT scan only shows pictures horizontally. There is no ionizing radiation (X-rays) involved in producing an MRI scan. MRI scans are generally more detailed, too. The difference between normal and abnormal tissue is often clearer on the MRI scan than on the CT scan." I found this on www.netdoctor.co.uk Hope this clarifies things....CT scans are usually done with and without contrast to light up any abnormal areas also. I don't believe you need to have contrast with the MRI. I had CT scans done every 3 months for 2 years before I got pg to rule out a nodule in my lung being cancer. I got the thumbs up right before I got pg which was a relief.
