Guest guest
Taryn, When this all started for , she had to have a CT scan done. I told them that I didn't want her sedated b/c it scared me. Well they listened to me. They didn't sedate her. It took the tech a few tries but it worked. The nurse that said that to you is a jerk! I'm sorry that she was so insensitive. Do you think that maybe you can call the doc and ask if can have a CT scan done instead? I know that for a CT scan sedation is mandatory but it is for an MRI. They told me that if needed a MRI they'd have no choice but to sedate her. I still told them noway. It just scares me too much. I know the risk of anything bad happening is VERY low, but it still scares me. Maybe they'll give her a CT scan instead. I'd call them and voice you concerns. Tell them that your not comfortable having her sedated. Hopefully they'll listen. What type of " hat " will be getting? I'm glad will be on her way to a rounder head soon! > > Well, we had 's appt. today in Chicago. We were told what I suspected...she has plagio and needs a helmet. She will be casted on Tues. She has to get an MRI of her brain done under sedation just to make sure there's nothing else causing her tort and plagio. The MRI is scheduled for Oct. 7th and then back for the results on Oct. 10th. We also have to go to see him on Oct. 31 so he can see how she is doing with her helmet. He wants to see us every three months while in her helmet. We Overall, it was pretty much everything I had expected except the lady there really made an insensitive comment that got me crying. I asked her about the risks with the sedation and she said " Well, there's always the risk she might not wake up " . Like I really needed to hear that right now!!! I have been crying on and off all day long and don't even want to think like that. > > One of my questions is has anyone else had their child undergo an MRI under sedation and what happened during the procedure? > > I am sure I will be posting more on Tues. after her casting about how it went and what I should expect....Ladies and I have officially joined the club!!! Guest guest
Ooops I meant it ISN'T mandatory to be sedated for a CT scan, but it is for an MRI. Guest guest
Thanks for making me feel better....it helps to know others have gone through it with no problems. I know the risk is rare but there is always that fear in the back of my mind, you know? Taryn and (being casted on 10/01/02) Re: 's neurosurgeon appt. today and questions for everyone!!!! Guest guest
Taryn- Dane had an MRI when he was 2 days old. He had to be sedated and intubated. I still can't believe he went through all those tests only to find out the problem was reflux! You're lucky only needs to oral meds. I know intubation is a safety procedure, but it freaks me out! Guest guest
Hi Taryn, My son Chase, 11 months, just had an MRI done under sedation on the 18th of this month. They gassed him first before they put the IV in, which I think was a good thing. Although it was difficult to see, he came through like a champ! They called me back in about 1/2 hour and they let me hold him and feed him some juice. Please try not to worry, everything will be fine! I know I was just there! Please feel free to email me personally if you'd like at jadesmom85251 @. I can't believe that lady was insensitive enough to say such a thing! You should've smacked her! LOL P.S. He had his done to see if there was a " cause/reason " for his development delays. I'm proud and relieved to say that they found nothing! ) Hugs, Tina & Chase
Guest guest
I can't imagine what you went through at two days of age. I am so glad Dane is doing well now. Intubation is not a fun procedure for anyone let alone a 2-day-old baby. Taryn and (being casted on 10/01/02) Re: 's neurosurgeon appt. today and questions for everyone!!!! Guest guest
Thank you for your information also on your experience. will be getting the oral sedation which is a lot less risky than the IV sedation so I am very optimistic that things will be just fine. I was just very stressed and overwhelmed yesterday and didn't need comments like that. I am glad to hear that Chase had nothing wrong and that he is doing well.
