Hi Taryn,

I'm so happy to hear the casting went well.

When Ray first posted about the Ballert helmet, I knew I had

heard/read about it somewhere. So I searched the archives and sure

enough ppl had posted about it. (When I first joined I was a lurker,

I read just about every post from the day this group was formed)

Every post that was posted about the Ballert helmet basically stated

that the baby that wore it, wore it for a year plus. So for this type

of helmet I don't think it's all too uncommon. That makes me think

it's a passive helmet. But didn't Ray post that is an active band,

like the DOCband and the STARband? I do know that for an active band

the usual time in it is 4.5 months.(Sometimes less) Unless the baby

requires 2 bands. Hopefully someone will be able to answer your

questions fully. Let us know when you get it.

> Here are two pictures from 's casting today. She didn't cry

while he put the material on the back of her head but as soon as he

put the second stocking cap on she started wailing. She really did

very well...I was so surprised and proud of her. I am also happy to

report I didn't cry once!!!! It only took about 5 minutes before we

were all done. The orthotist answered all my questions and was very

nice. He is the same person Ray of the group saw. Anyway, he said

will probably need 2 helmets and could possibly wear one until

18 months. Is this common and have any of you had to do this? She

gets fitted next Tues. and will be going back every 2-3 weeks for

checkups and adjustments. Thanks to everyone for supporting us

through this and for the kind words.

Thanks, . It was really a lot better than I thought it would be. was so strong about it and I was so proud of her. I can't remember if Ray had said it was active or passive either. I haven't seen him post lately. I will ask the orthotist on Tues. exactly what it's considered...I know I asked him yesterday but I have so much going through my head right now I can't remember. Below is something from their website.

The helmets are designed with several layers of padding, making it easy to adjust the helmet to a growing skull without having to make a new helmet.

Taryn,

So glad to hear that did as well as can be expected with her

casting. I love casting pics, I think they are so cute with all that

plaster on them! Let us know when her helmet comes in, and get in

lots of snuggle time with her noggin before it gets here!
