Guest guest
, Thank you for the website! Don't know how I missed that on Orthomerica's site. I found the number for the center in Panama City and they have done the STARband but the said not many. I am gonna have my Ortho call them when I go to my visit tomorrow - I want him to screen them to make sure they know what they are doing! If not - it looks like there are two facilities in Tallahassee which is about 2 hours away. Thanks so much! Guest guest
Debbie, Yes, we do have Tricare. They did cover the helmet. Our Pediatrician called Tricare and told them that Ethan HAD to have the helmet due to him have torticollis and it causing severe flattening to his right back side of the head. We were going to PT and his torticollis was getting better but we still couldn't keep him off of his right side of his head. The flat spot was comfortable for him. We repositioned with no luck - he was too squirmy. His Pediatrician is really good and she made sure they would cover it - she even told them that she would hate to see a lawsuit result if they didn't cover! She is great! The helmet has helped a great deal but there is still an area (small one) that still seems flat. I hope that with more adjustments it will round out more. He has had his helmet since August 27th. I will keep you posted! Ethan starband since aug. 27th In a message dated 9/30/2002 10:32:40 AM Central Daylight Time, dj2kirby@... writes: : I can understand why you are so stressed out! Just curious cuz most of our military family members do have Tricare, not many have had their band covered, especially w/o a fight! That's great they covered the band. I hope your orthotist gets back with you soon about the shifting, sounds like an adjustment needs to be made. Have you seen any improvement yet while in the band? Guest guest
, The fitting problems are frustrating! Especially since it seems like it is making my son's ear look worse than it did. When he started developing the plagio it made his ears appear different and the ear on the flatted side much bigger than the other one. So of course I am getting frustrated with this. You're right, maybe this move will be a blessing! I also lived in Florida for 11 years so it will be like going home in a way. Thanks for the positive advice! Guest guest
, That is a good idea - I am gonna bring that up when I see my ortho tomorrow! Either they repay me the amount or work out something with the new ortho and they pay them?! This is just a thought but maybe the place you got your son's STARband from, would be willing to give you a partial refund. Since you paid in full and have only had the band for a month. And you are moving out of state. Maybe you should talk to whoever is in charge. Tell them the situation that your in. At least this way when you do find a new ortho in Fla.. you won't have to pay anything out of pocket. Good luck and please keep us posted! > Hi everyone! Guest guest
- What a predicament! I see someone said there is a Hanger near where you will be. If you call them, make sure to interview them on their expertise. Will your son be needing a 2nd band? If so and you agree to get that with Hanger, perhaps they will continue treatment with the first one free of charge. Just a thought. I can imagine you are frustrated! Sounds like you are having serious fitting issues. The band should not be doing that to the ears. Are you seeing improvement with the plagio? Maybe the move will be a blessing in diguise and you will really like the new orthos? Just trying to stay positive for you! Dane's mom DOC Grad > Hi everyone! Guest guest
About fitting problems here is what I have learned: On STAR bands the cheek parts are what hold it in place, the wider they are the more comfortable for the kid. But since Plagio kids often have misaligned ears often one or the other ends up being encroached a little in an effort to keep the cheek part of the helmet as broad as possible. New helmets also fit a little loose apparently the shifting should stop eventutaully. We had our ortho mark a centerline to line up over his nose and now ignore how it is fitting around his ear- unless of course it is covering it- which it should not do under any circumstances.
