Guest guest
, I agree that it could very well be the tort causing her one side to seem like she is unbalanced. Is her left side the tort side? Has her hips been ruled out as the cause of the tort? Sometimes torticollis is caused by hip displasia, and the ped can check this with pushing on the legs. Many tort kids have issues with balance, and mostly because the tight SCM muscle is making them off kilter, one side is tighter than the other. Tort kids will pull up their shoulder to compensate, many pull up the hip creating the " c " posture, this is why some tort that goes untreated can cause upper scoliosis, the spine shifts to protect the brain stem at any cost, its trying to keep in line with the stem. You can work on these issues with light massage pulling downwards, essentially working out or releasing that side of the body- its like a domino effect, the SCM is tight, they feel off balance, so they tend to pull that entire side up with it. See if rocking her back and forth on her butt while sitting between your legs helps to allow her to feel ok with being on that tort side, many do not feel balanced and won't attempt using that side. Also, have her reach up high for things, down low, using that tort arm- and don't let her other arm get it, make her work for it, but also don't ignore the other side either. Just keep an open mind about the tort causing this imbalance, many Docs are not giving out correct information, and CP may not even be related to what her problem is. I would encourage you to try working that side out, let that " cramp " out and see if this helps before worrying about a CP dx. Good luck and please keep us posted on the outcome of the dx.
