Guest guest
Yes, its sounds a little frustrating with the run around you got. I have heard good things about STARbands, and bad things, but it all depends on the experience of the orthotist. There are locally made helmets that do well also, again, it all depends on the skill of the maker. I would ask your orthotist for his credentials, experience, success rate, any before and after pics to share. Even if you have already gotten a STARband for Ben, its still not too late to address those questions. If you are on top of their every move, keeping a watchful, waiting eye- to see if progress is being made (or not) you will also have an indication as to what this ortho is telling you is either true or false ( a month's time should show you one way or the other imo). I have heard great success stories like Niki's where the STARband did the trick, and I have heard horror stories such as Debbie's, where the STARband did far more harm than good, and was ditched for a DOC band. It all falls back to the maker of the band, and how much time they have been doing it, success rate, etc. Keep an open mind, but interview that ortho as much as possible. It's your right to know these things as the " buyer " of the product, so don't feel intimidated or feel bothersome for asking twenty questions, your the customer, and the customer is always right- not to mention our children are the patients, and we all want comfort, fit, and success as much as possible! I have already forwarded your mail and another STARband post to Niki, so hopefully over the weekend she might be able to reply if her back is better. Good luck to you and please continue picking the brains of all the members on the Board, we are all here to help, either been there, currently there, or are going there with you!
