Guest guest
Awww ! We all know what your going through! It's not really all that much of a change for the babies. It's more of an adjustment for us parents. He WILL adjust quickly. If the chin straped posed any danger to the babies I'm totally sure, they wouldn't be on the bands! It won't affect his walking at all!! just started walking and her band has saved her little noggin soooo many times. The band won't mess with his balance. Please know that your not alone. We've all gone through what your going through. We're all here for you! > Are we doing the right thing? Guest guest
Kelli- I certainly know how you feel. When you get the helmet and see how Luke will adjust to it so eaily, your fears will be put to rest. It shouldn't cause him any balancing acts. They (at least the DOC band) are very very light. Dane didn't have a chin strap, but I know other members kids who did with no complaints. That little boy you saw was probably oblivious about the whole thing, right? Rest assured, the helmet will be ready soon and then you'll blink and he will have graduated and put plagio behind him! Dane's mom DOC Grad > Are we doing the right thing? Guest guest
Kelli: " what if what if what if? " ....the famous worried mommy questions. I understand all your worries & concerns, I had them myself prior to getting Abby's bands in. The chin straps are only used on some locally made helmets. We've had other members whose child's helmet also had a chin strap. I think Kellie's son did, hopefully she'll chime in here. The helmet defintiely should barely move, so it shouldn't rotate enough for the chin strap to choke him, if it does rotate too much, then your orthotist would adjust it accordingly. It should'nt affect his walking at all. I found Abby's bands to be very helpful by protecting her head from all her tumbles while learning to walk & crawl. Seriously, it was a great protective device as well as a great rounding tool! And really, it is very very uncommon for babies, even older ones, to be bothered by wearing their helmets. It's remarkable and amazing just how well babies adjust to wearing these things, honestly! Now take some benadryl and get some sleep tonite! I remember i had butterflies for 2 wks prior to getting Abby's first band - I drove myself crazy- all for nothing! Debbie Abbys' mom DOCGrad MI > Are we doing the right thing? Guest guest
Kelli, I can't even begin to tell you how many times I second guessed my decision to get the twins banded. I drove everyone around me crazy because I kept changing my mind on what was the best thing to do. But in all honesty, I am so happy that I decided to go for it! This whole thing really can take you for a ride on an emotional roller coaster. But you have to remember, in the grand scheme of things, plagiocephaly is just a drop in the bucket! You'll be amazed at how quickly your son will adjust to his new hat, in fact many of the kids get very attached to it. One day last week, I caught my son trying to put one of the bands back on his head! Chin straps are not all that uncommon. Many of the kids here have had one on their helmets. None of them ever complained about it being a potentially dangerous thing. The only thing I can really think of that people mentioned about the strap was all the drool that got on it! (an old sock over the strap should work fine at absorbing that drool!) He'll be able to walk fine still. In fact, you'll probably be grateful for that extra protection...I know I was! Hang in there, you are doing a great thing! Niki Kaylie & Danny (STAR grads) Phila., PA > Are we doing the right thing?
