quick changes in head shape

Hi all! My son has been wearing his docband for 2 weeks and 2 days

and it seems that his head is changing very quickly. He has flatnees

on his right side (10mm)with ear missalignment (7mm). He is 10

months old. I was told by the ortho that his head will start to look

flatter on his left side because it will start to shift over to the

right. ok. It seems to happen really fast which is good, but I hate

to see flattening in other spots. Just paranoid I guess, but have

others seen this happen? Will the head go though many phases?

It almost seems that his head changes shapes about a day after

adjustments. Is this a growth spurt or what? So far I have been

really happy with the improvement we have seen. However, last night

it looked to flat on the left side, but today it looks fine. Boy, I

look at his head a lot. I guess we all do and hope for improvement.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Annette

Hi Annette,

Sorry I don't have any answers for you. But I have read that the

babies head will go through many changes during treatment. I'm sure

someone on board will reply to your post and answer all of your

questions. Welcome to the group!!

Hi Annette & welcome to our group!

That's great your son has seen good improvement already! He's off to

a great start. He must be going thru a growth spurt like you thought

to be getting such good correction already, you got the band just in

time!

A lot of parents say their child's head shape appears " bumpy " while

in the band as the headshape is changing. The left side of his head

may appear to be flatter to you, but it might look that way simply

becuz the right side is finally rounding some, so the left side won't

look as bulgy as it once did...make sense?

Get used to thinking one day his head looks rounder, then the next it

still looks flat! About every one of us in the group have done

exactly what you're doing at one time or another. Drives us nutz!

I'm sure CT doesn't have his head mold back yet, but when they do,

that's when you'll see the true changes he's made.

Welcome again to the group...glad to have you. Keep us posted on

your son's progress.

Hey Annette welcome to the group-glad you have found us. My son wore a doc

band and we experienced the same thing you are going through. He wore it

early so he had a lot of head growth and change quickly I think your eyes

play tricks on you and things look good one minute and then the next your

like wait there is a flat spot i see. heck graduated over a year ago

and I still run around the house sometimes with his head wet saying honey

look at this no from this angle right there is that a flat spot is it is it I

think is is and then the next day perfection. If you are confident in your

ortho and they say it is normal then I think you are fine but certainly if

you have any question at all go in and get it checked out or give them a

call.

We are glad you are here and would love to hear more about you and pictures

of your cutie pie if you can!

Annette,

My ortho used to say that we would see the most changes within the

first four weeks. So I am not surprised to hear that only after 2

weeks and 2 days, you've seen the head shape change a bit. You sound

like a lot of us here, even those of us whose kids have graduated

from their bands and helmets. Some days the head looks wonderful,

but the next day we think we still see some flatness. The eyes have

a way of playing tricks on us. Plus the fact that we stare at these

noggins day in and day out, its really difficult for us to look with

an open mind.

Good luck to you, Annette, and welcome to the group!!
