Guest guest
Happy Friday everyone, Just got back from my son 's appointment at Hanger Orthotics to get casted for his band. I must say, it was fairly traumatic, both for me and for . I held it together pretty well, but felt so bad for , especially when they kept putting those pieces of plaster around his head. He just cried and cried and I know it wasn't because it hurt but just because he was scared. I felt so bad for him but realize that is something that needs to be done. I just get so angry when I think of all the pediatricians who dismiss plagiocephaly as a legitimate problem and who say " Oh, his head will round out as he gets older " . Give me a break, they are just so uninformed and leave it to the parents to do something about it. It was kind of discouraging because the man at the Orthotics place said that we might not get great results because of 's age (12 months, almost 13). We realize that he is older but know that each chlid is different and they grow differently so you can't generalize the results. I guess he was just trying to give me all the positives and negatives of banding but I have a feeling that will get great results with this band. Well, thanks for listening and I will post more when gets his actual helmet. &
Guest guest
, I completely understand what you are going through. my son is on his 3rd helmet. 1st one was a manufacturing defect, 2nd one he wore for 4 months( was seeing an orthotist in Palo Alto for this helmet - the only orthotist that has the $50,000 scanner technology from Orthomerica.) Let me tell everyone this... as far as our experience went with Palo Alto, it was terrible. 4 months with the Starband and little to no improvement. I was informed by not only the wonderful people that post to this message board, but the new orthotist is seeing as well as just confirmed from 's Neurosergeon that 's helmet was wrong dispite the orthotist at Palo Alto saying it was right. is now 10 1/2 months old and just got casted for his 3rd helmet a couple days ago. I believe casting is the way to go. Finally can wear a helmet without having all of the skin on his forehead blister and peel off due to the helmet rotating constantly! I can't believe the orthotist said that we should have kept the helmet on. (we took the helmet off for a week for his forehead to heal. It's not like his head would have drastically changed in one week since it didn't do anything in the 4 months he was wearing it...) Here is some info that we have learned after having in his helmet. If it looks as though your little one is really resisting to the helmet in the " break-in " period, introduce the helmet to him slower. This way, instead of resisting the helmet, he will eventually get used to it. If you have problems with keeping the sun out of his eyes, use an adult baseball cap... it will fit over the helmet, look cool, and keep the sun out of their eyes... just some advise that I wish I had when we started this journey.... hope all goes well. > Happy Friday everyone, > Just got back from my son 's appointment at Hanger Orthotics > to get casted for his band.
