Guest guest
Well, we have some twin mommies on the board I hope they chime in and a dad too-sorry Ken. I am sure they will respond for you but many have only banded one and not the other-as well as Niki our moderator only banded one of hers. The DOC is NOT hype I can guarantee you that for sure-it is a very wonderful and amazing product but I am bias since my son is a doc grad. The star band nopco helmet and many other locally made helmets as well as the doc have had wonderful success stories and many parents here that can testify on all of their behalf. If you have the right orthotists any helmet can be successful-wonderfully successful. Don't let your neuro talk you out of what you believe it right for your baby you are mommy and you need to follow those instincts. We have had some great repo successes as well and 4 months is a great age. If you can post pictures of them both I would love to compare their head shapes. I am going to give you lots of links to take a look at this is a scary time and we are glad you have found us you will find lots of support and a wealth of knowledge here. beck. please let me know if you cant access these ir have any other questions. whats tort babymassage files head shapes Baby Pillow, Baby Gift, Prevent Flat head, Baby Gear, Infant Pillow repostiioing DOC Orthomerica Find a Preferred Physician: Search by Location Repositioning Techniques Click here: HealthScout-Kid-Sharing a Womb Can Flatten Skull Click here: Positional Plagiocephaly (Flattened Head) Click here: Parenting Multiples
Guest guest
Hi there, My twins both wore DOC bands and my daughter (twin A) was definitely squished against my pelvic bones. She even had bruising on her back where she was stuck. They were both moderate/severe and began wearing the bands at about 5 1/2 months of age. Sara wore hers for only 6 weeks and got total correction. Sam wore his band for 7 weeks and got pretty good correction, but he has a residual flat spot that is most likely from where he was stuck under my ribs. I do not see any facial assymetry since graduating from the DOC bands. In my opinion, the neuro's comment about doing something for one twin and not the other is way off track. They are individuals with individual needs. If twin B doesn't have plagio, then don't treat her for plagio. If twin A has plagio, then go for it, Mom. You're right to pursue this. You certainly don't want to have to explain to them later on why they are identical and look nothing alike if you could have done something now to help one of them. There are many people here that can help answer your questions about the different kinds of helmets, so ask away. You will be filled with a wealth of knowledge as I have been. Good luck to you and your twins. Gail, Sam and Sara's mom, DOC grads docband or helmet? Hi again!still very unsure of what to do. Our daughter is an identical twin but because of the plagiocephaly of 9mm they look nothing alike. They think she got squished up against my pelvic bone in utero and everyone told me she would grow out of it- not happening!! I feel like I am trying to search for the best way to get her to look more like her identical twin sister. Our neurosurgeon doesn't think we should do one thing to one twin and not the other, and thinks the helmet- "NOPCO" won't make much of a difference than repositioning alone, but also thinks that the DOC band is just hype. We asked for a prescription regardless, but are still in a dilemma of which helmet to use. the neurosurgeons and cranio-facial doctors at Boston Children's Hospital all refer to the NOPCO helmet. Does it depend on where you are in the country? Sorry, lots of questions yet feel like I am racing against the clock.
