Guest guest
Taryn, You can find some really good decorating tips at http://www.plagiocephaly.org/support/decorate.htm I used to cheat a bit when I was decorating the twins bands. Since I always painted them, I would let them go one night free from the bands so that I could paint, do the rub-on transfers, paint their names on, and then quite a few coats of an acrylic varnish. You don't want to decorate the bands while the baby is wearing it, just as a safety precaution. Can't wait to see the finished results!! Niki Kaylie & Danny (STAR grads) Phila., PA > I know everyone has done different things but for those who have used stickers do you just put clear fingernail polish over the tops of them or do you use something else to seal them so they won't come off? I want something that is easy to get off so we can change it regularly. I was also wondering for stickers do we need to sand it down or do anything before putting them on? Do you also decorate it while it's on (since they wear it 23 hours a day) or during the hour it's off a day and how long does it typically take for decorate one? Sorry for all the questions...I am just curious and anxious to get started once it comes in on Tues. > > Taryn and > Indiana
Guest guest
I like the rub on decals. I first sealed them with mod-podge, but it got sticky and pulled out a chuck of 's hair. I think it got sticky because I was messy with the alcohol. Anyways I removed the mod-podge and put a clear coat nail polish over it instead. Which looks much smoother and people now think the Band came with the Decals on it. Nail Polish is the may to go. I used Kay sealer but I would think any clear coat would be fine. Is it possible to paint the band and put stickers on it? > In other words, will the stickers adhere to the paint or will they fall off? > (We, too, think the stickers are an easy way to decorate it but would also > like to give it some color.) Guest guest
Mod Podge is enough to seal the band, no need for more acrylic after applying rub ons. I painted the helmet with acrylic paint, put rub ons or stickers on it, applied mod podge, drying with a hair dryer after each layer to spead time. it stays on for a week or so. if you wanted it to last a long time, apply mod every few days. if not, the paint and all just peels right off, like that nail polish we had a kids that just painted and peeled off, i think it was tinkerbell or something. rub ons did well, although one brand peeled the underneath paint off, so i had to start over again. cover the velcro strap with tape or soemthing to prevent paint etc getting on it. Guest guest
another thing, after putting stickers on the helmet, you can coat them with clear fingernail polish to protect them. when you want to remove, use fingernail polish remover, and start over again. jen
Guest guest
Hi Jen, Thanks for the tips. I ended up painting it with acrylic paint and put a couple coats of varnish on it. Then I put the stickers on and went over them with clear nail polish. It looks pretty good and we're hoping it holds up, at least for awhile. I'll let you know how it goes. We did a baseball theme, per my husband's choice.. My poor baby is being pushed into the sport so early into his young life. Ugh.
