QUESTION ON RAGES

Okay, so my 12 yr old son with ocd is so calm and agreeable. He is

really asymptomatic. He is a joy to be around and has a very

pleasant personality.

My 9 yr old daughter is brilliant and knows it and so is can get

rather obnoxious, but seems like a normal kid.

My 7 yr old daughter probably has some ocd and is very moody, but is

controllable and responds to discipline.

My 5 yr old daughter has these horrible, horrible rages. I've never

seen anything like it but I am hoping those of you with raging

children can help me some here. What constitutes a rage over just a

child trying to get their way, as in ... how do you know if it is

something they can help or cannot help. Anything you say to her that

goes against what she wants develops into a full blown rage. She

doesn't cry, she wails. She kicks and screams and is unresponsive.

These moments can last for up to an hour at a time - usually when it

ends she has screamed herself to sleep. Now, at preschool, which she

attends 5 days a week for a regular school day, she is fine. Her

teachers say she is a joy. Home is a different story. But sometimes

I catch her raging and then stopping and in a completely normal

voice, talking to someone for a moment, and then going back into her

rage, which leads to me believe that at least partially, she is being

manipulative. Would you take her in to the dr and would you try to

videotape some of her behaviors so they can see it in action? What

is the best way to handle something like this?

Thanks for any advice you may have.
