, I was diagnosed with RA two years ago but I also had

thyrotoxicosis about twenty years ago. I had a sub-total

thyroidectomy at that time and then five years ago, radio-iodine. I

now take a regular dose of thyroxine as well as a number of

different medications for the RA. Thyrotoxicosis and RA are both

auto-immune diseases and I believe once you have had one you are at

more risk of developing another!!

Yes I have graves disease of the thyroid. I had the

radioactive iodine about 2 years ago. I also had

nodules and a mass. They did 2 needle biopsies and

the are benign. I also have diabetes and asthma. One

of the Dr's. said that there is a theory that diabetes

is autoimmune related.

,

I am 52 and too have thyroid problems. I am on Synthyroid, tried

Armor Thyroid, but could not stay regulated. I had a thyroidectomy

at that the age of 13, where my Parathyroid was accidentally removed,

which regulates calcium. I take 2000 mg calcium/Vit d daily.

I have hypothyroidism and I take Synthroid for it to keep it well controlled.

It was diagnosed a couple of years before I had any symptoms of RA and I have no

idea why the doctor ran the tests to diagnose it. It's another autoimmune

disease and if you have one, you are at increased risk for getting another. God

bless.

Any of you posters out there have RA as well as thyroid situations

going as well??

My doc/then endocrinologist says that I might have Hashimoto's

thyroiditis which CAN/may be linked to other auto immune types of

disease (eg, lupus, sjogrens, RA, etc)

I have pretty normal blood tests BUTTTT I am wondering if ALSO the

thyroid is/can be another bodily system affected by these insidious

diseases?

Oh by the way, thyroid ultrasound indicated small nodules but heck I

see no difference in the size of my neck?..now he wants to do a fine

needle aspiration?..not sure what that is...HATE NEEEEEEDLES!!!!!

I wonder at times if these docs want to just do all these procdeures

on us to get moolah!..growl!

GOD BLESS to you fellow sufferers of RA and other associated auto-

diseases.....

Hoping for a cure one of these days to our diseases......sigh....

from Reagan country.....

Mtx for 6 yrs, RA, possible Hashi's ...
