Question for Dr. Geller: Zoloft addressing social anxiety, not as well for OCD

Hi,

My daughter is 13 and has been living with OCD for 7 years. Her

scrupulosity variant has been unresponsive to ERP therapy.

She is on 150 mg generic Zoloft and her social anxiety has loosened

dramatically, now to the point that she feels that the meds are

making her more talkative than what would be natural for her. I've

observed her in social situations where she might blurt out something

without thinking and it's seemed uncharacteristic of her. At home

she seems " normal " and in the classroom she is not being disruptive;

in fact, her teachers say she is quiet. I want to take her concern

at face value but it doesn't fully mesh with my observations.

Unfortunately, the OCD is not responding as much to the Zoloft as the

social anxiety component. Are there other options that we should

consider? I don't like being dependent on meds but I don't see an

option at this point.

Thank you so much,

lakelottie
