Guest guest
Hi All, Just fyi, it was my son's psychiatrist who recommended omega 3 fish oil about five years ago.. not a naturopath. She is a conventionally trained child psychiatrist but she was convinced enough to tell us about it, along with her prescription for concerta. (that was awhile ago when my son was in 2nd grade) He spent 3 years on it, then I detoxified him from it as a stimulant (that was really hard) because I felt it was effecting his mood... he was irritable and nasty and mostly ODDish. He was off of it for four years, this summer we restarted with strattera, a low dose (he should be on 80mg for his size) but he is on 25 mg. He reports that it makes a huge difference in his ability to relate to other kids. It also help him initiate and complete tasks. It is still not a perfect answer - my suspicion is that there is more to his neuro story than ADHD.. but I am trying to keep tabs and be patient. It is hard to know how much to be preventative. ( I don't want him to self-medicate...) He is pretty motivated to pass school this year(also 130 plus IQ) and I am trying to learn not to expect too much and not be a nag. (we are seeing a therapist/counselor together to help with negotiations so he feels empowerered and I can let go of concerns about task completion) He is also a dancer which helps very much, in my opinion, neurologically.. does anyone else have opinions regarding movement/dance and anxiety disorders? thanks, Alice
