I haven't gone down that path like I should. The hydrosols that I got

from distilling (rosemary, douglas fir, melissa, lemon verbena), I've

so far only used in my soaps. I'd like to use them for the water

portion of blends, but I've not dome so to date. Mostly because I've

only just started diluting my blends. (I'm so slow. My " symbol " was

the turtle when I was growing up.) That and I need to distill some

more stuff.

In soapmaking .... lovely to use when creating soapballs from vegetable flakes.

In perfume one can use instead of water to colognes.... drop by drop to the high

proof alcohol... you would have to check the acceptable amount .. I am falling

asleep and too tired to find the answer... but check your books the answer will

be there....

hydrosols used for face misters.... I know of many who use them on planes to

avoid de-hydration and keep face from drying out.

if you were to put a teaspoon of neroli in your drinking water, you

would never drink plain water again!

i use them in my lotions as the water portion..mostly i like spraying

them on my face..for the fragrance and skin dynamics. lately i've been

playing with ones Just for fragrance (which, there really is no such

thing) as the different scents alter us mentally and emotionally..but i

like seeing which ones make me feel " AHHhhhh " .

Can a person combine hydrosols, like essences in a perfume? Like a

lotion with sandalwood, lavender, and neroli hydrosols?

you bet! keep in mind that these waters are very subtle...and

sometimes the fragrances will get lost. i almost think they are

better employed on the energetic level, rather than the physical..(but

everything is energy anyway!) so even if you used one and you

couldn't detect it's scent, it would be there 'working' in the

background. there are so many levels to play with!

OK I've been reading all the posts about distilling and I have decided I NEED TO

LEARN HOW TO DO THIS! (pardon me if this has been covered before, I'm new at

this) Is there a good reference guide to point me in the right direction?

I had a similar dilemma when I was tinturing freeze dried fruits-I ate half of

the package before any ever got into the alcohol!

i will have to remember that!

i picked out a little blurb from Kurt Schnabelt's " Medical

Aromatherapy " that stated " Neroli contains the dimeric form of

ocimene, a youth hormone...' so i spray it and drink it, hoping i will

stay young forever! haha. it is a favorite of mine and i am having a

late season flush of a few blooms that i'm going to distill. O how i

envy the folks in warmer climes!!

This is funny- your post made me think of a beautiful fragrant mystery

melon I had last year- and then, I went to check out your website, and

there it was! Tigger Melon! I had been wondering what that melon was

for a year now.

See, last summer, I went to a wonderful Aromatherapy conference. On

the way out of town, I stopped at a farmer's market and bought this

lovely little melon because it smelled so good. It rode in my

cupholder on the drive from Oregon to California, and I sniffed it so

many times on that long hot trip.

Then, I was at the conference, learning so much, and Mandy Aftel did a

special workshop on perfume, and I was hooked......

So, I am so happy to know the name of the little melon that

accompanied me on what turned out to be a big, new direction for me. I

never could bring myself to eat it, I just carried my little buddy

around, sniffing it, until it got too squishy & went to the compost.

Micah, Dabney - muskmelons were, in the past, often bred for tiny size

and fragrance, not eating. They were meant to be carried in the pocket -

or in your case, the cupholder - LOL - and were admired for their scent.

I put a call out on the local group for my neighborhood for

assistance in obtaining and setting up and using a distillation unit -

no replies yet. I really want to get into this, and one of the things

I'll start with (since my veggie growing season is just starting here -
