Guest guest
Hiya, Ambrosia... I know this is going to read strange but speaking of food... If it taste good, it is because your nose thinks it smells nice in the first place, the whole package sends good feeling status to your brain which stores this in a corner for future use ad vitam eternam. In a stressful moment, said brain will fall back on feel good status item wanting to apease the stressful moment making you crave for that thing but more than this thing itself, the situation in which you were when you attained this feeling good state food-wise. It does not have to be but usually, it is something traditional or familial like your Grand-Ma preserves or a fruit pie or something hearty like steaming, simmering stew in Automn or whatever works for you. It might be that you can buy those things already made out of a shop so you go buy them, soemtimes cheap even, you get back home, you open them, heat them, you sit down and you eat. Well, is it good or does it feel fake ? It is not the same because it does have any of the inner memories that you have regarding what you have in your plate, it is just something out of a package... To me, with scents it is the same : You know French perfumes from Haute Couture ? Grand-Dad Narcisse was not into those kind of stuff at all, he was the down right Blue Mennen man even though he had a flower for a firstname. He has been dead 30 years but if ever I happen to snif the scent in the air from a passing man, I kind of hyperventilate and frantically search left and right to see where he is. Grand-Ma Odette was Chanel No 5, Mama was Femme from Rochas and my very first scent was Rive Gauche from Yves St t, all highly distinctive scents. Tradition had them all done with natural products and all smelled heavenly then some time in the 80s, producers decided to synthetise scent so that it cost cheaper I guess. Well, I cannot stand the scents any longer. It does not stinck no but it is not the same, something is off balance somewhere and it hits emotions in the wrong way. It is still pleasurable I guess but it is not perfection any longer, the olfactive memory is cheated although 90% of it is still there and it still truns the whole thing sour. Synthetising I guess is sureproof factory reproducing while one had to be careful with natural products. Still and all synthetising will never beat natural, at least with me... Take good care, Obside myspace.com/oobside
Guest guest
Hi All, On the subject of Natural versus synthetic I have a funny one that you can try for yourself. Estee Lauder have a new Perfume that is named Sensuous. It is around $80 for a small bottle, I kid you not that it smells exactly like Australian Sandalwood EO. What gets me is the extensive list of ingredients in this Perfume and the price compared to the wholesale cost of around $15 for 25ml of Australian Sandalwood and $2 for a liter of Alcohol.
