Guest guest
Exactly - as has said, it's the folks who pick themselves up, dust themselves off and keep on going who achieve the most longterm success. Question though - what is it that you don't want to be doing again next month? n At 07:12 AM 4/15/2006, you wrote: >I can completely relate. If you think you slipped up.... Guest guest
OK - I just was double-checking that you weren't trying to reach a goal weight, and then planning to return to you old eating routines... Guest guest
so can you come up with things to try next month when it starts to happen? felicity
Guest guest
> > so can you come up with things to try next month when it starts to > happen? > felicity > This article deals with the whole hunger and PMS issue really well. I read it in the files section, in the article on Flax seed oil. 1) Flaxseed oil assists in the production of hormones. For that reason it helps to balance hormones that contribute to PMS. Women who have been " out of balance, " so to speak, may undergo a hormonal adjustment after adding flaxseed oil to their diet. 2) It is normal to be exceptionally hungry 5-7 days before the onset of one's period. This is due to the normal rise in progesterone. 3) Progesterone is a hormone that can help to store body fat and increase hunger. Here is what Dr. Henry Mallek, an expert in women's nutrition, has to say about progesterone: " Progesterone is a hormone that selectively metabolizes protein. In other words, if you were giving a buffet dinner and invited progesterone, it would arrive hungry for chicken and cold roast beef. If the level of progesterone were as high at your dinner party as it is in your body in the premenstrual time, you would soon find all the protein gobbled up. As a result of progesterone's metabolic appetite, your body is left with low levels of amino acids that are the building blocks of protein. You end up feeling hungry. . . " The solution: " Eat plenty of [low fat] protein in the premenstrual phase and you'll keep blood amino acid levels high in your system and counteract the appetite increasing effects of progesterone. " 4) Progesterone is also very efficient at metabolizing protein. It is so good at it that " your body can burn up to 10 percent more protein during the premenstrual phase. " This is good news ladies! It means that adding an additional serving of protein that week will not hurt-in fact it is needed. 5) Unfortunately progesterone is also good at storing fat in your fat cells. The bottom line: If you are trying to lose weight, and you feel extraordinarily hungry 5-7 days before your cycle starts, eat a bit more protein and reduce fat intake. I plan to continue taking flaxseed oil during that time, but with the onset of increased hunger five to seven days before menstruation, I will make sure I consume the flaxseed oil early in the day and make sure that I cut back on all other fats during that time (ie. eat low fat cottage cheese etc.). It makes sense that we as women we are more hungry during that week and need more protein considering the purpose of the monthly cycle and the changes our bodies go through. Hope this helps! Guest guest
Someone already mentioned a cup of warm tea. It helps me alot. It doesn't even have to be hot I especially lean on green tea and/or peppermint. I have been known to mix a tablespoon of psyllium, oat, or wheat bran in a big glass of water...chug it, then drink one more glass of water and do 25 jumping jacks. ( " smile " a HUGE smile while you do it) Laugh out loud for 5 minutes. Try it ...you might like it M. During TOM there is a trick I use with cocoa powder, pasturized egg whites, and stevia and/or splenda... whip them into a froth and eat with a tiny spoon. Something in the cocoa calms me. (I forget)
