Guest guest
So what is everyone's BF% goal? I seem to have a harder time with picking that goal because I don't have any personal reference point... I'm 29.8% now, and I know I want to be less... I was reading Oxygen today (which I am now obsessed with) and they had an article about BF% and competitors during the off season maintain about 12-14%, and they said that non-competitors would probably be happy with 16-18%.... Of course I feel like I should break it down into stages with my first goal being under 25% BF, but I think untimately I would want to be at about 17%... But again, I have no reference point and I have no idea what I would weigh or anything... Right now I'm 164 and my lean mass is about 115, and I've always wanted to weigh 125 just for the sake of saving I lost 50 pounds (I was 175 in Feb), but I think I would have to be at a REALLY REALLY low BF% and lose muscle, which I do NOT want to do, at all. I know I'm no where near really worrying about if my BF% is too low, but I just thought I'd start thinking about it
Guest guest
Wow... I can't type, sorry yall... I *ultimately* want to be at about 17% (now I'm thinking 15%)... And I wanted to weigh 125 for the sake of *saying* I lost 50 pounds... but I played around with the excel fat loss/muscle gain thing and I want to be about 15% AND gain 10 pounds of muscle, so that puts me right at 145! Just like I thought BF% > So what is everyone's BF% goal? I seem to have a harder time with picking > that goal because I don't have any personal reference point... Guest guest
I just uploaded an excel file to the " files " section. it's called " weight loss calculator " you can put in you current weight and fat% and you BF% goal and muscle gain goal and it tells you your goal weight assuming the person who created actually understood how to do the math behind that i hope i'm not violating someone's " copywrite " rights by posting it -- it's just something i found on the web somewhere i can't even attribute it felicity > What Excel fat loss/ muscle gain thing? > > -
Guest guest
Since lean mass includes water, you can expect it to go up and down without much rhyme or reason. It sort of depends on your current weight and percentage of body fat. If your body fat percentage is over about 25-30%, the numbers (estimates) are going to be a little flaky and you will most likely lose some lean mass due to water and math, not due to losing actual muscle tissue. If you're below 20%, you need to be more concerned about losing lean mass because you don't have much weight to lose and and won't see the same big fluctuations in water, so if your lean mass starts going down instead of up at that point, you need to pay attention and make adjustments. In general, a woman new to serious strength training could put on maybe 2-4 pounds of lean mass in a 12 week challenge, where a woman taking creatine might see up to 5-7 pounds. > What I'm curious about is how much lean mass can i expect to gain? > so far i've lost 4 lbs > 3 of which are fat > 1 of which is lean mass > > can i expect to gain lean mass during weight loss or is my best hope > not too lose too much? > felicity
