Guest guest
What aromas does the fall/early winter remind you off? Any smells associated with people, places, or events? Any specific combinations of essences you like for this time of year?

The cold reminds me of " personified " wool clothing (wool with the smell of people) and cigars, thanks to my German grandfather who lived in Maine. Definitely harvest-home meal scents, too. I adore the smell of wool. And personalized wool (thanks Adam for that perfect term!) is just too lovely. Oh -- to breathe in the scents that cling to the wool. Mmmm! Makes me want to blend all of the above for the season - and try to get that nice wool smell in there too. Of course, with just a little hint of vanilla as well - not for sweetness - more for roundness, richness. Now, if I can tincture some dried cranberries without it going all goopy... My experiments with dried apples and pears were lovely but not wearable. Well, unless I wanted to be sticky. Would be fine in a bare room, elsewise I'd be covered with cat fuzz, lint, and dust bunnies. Not my idea of fun. ; ) (I suppose I could always turn the dried fruit tinctures into liqueurs... What a dear, now departed friend always referred to as " corn squeezins " .) Cheers! Andrine

Funny....this time of the year, and through the 1st Jan., it's food smells mostly.... Maybe leaf burning, but I've been urban for a long time... Also...with the colder weather, I take up incense burning more..... And use the aromalamp more, too....(hot weather I use the fans and AC unit)... W. Bourbonais L'Hermite Aromatique A.J.P. I have quite a bit incense Myrhh Sandalwood Vetiver(especially the smoky kinds) Oakmoss Labdanum Amber Cardamom Cinnamon Cloves Nutmeg Allspice Orange Tangerine Ginger Foodie/sweets/hot beverages smells: Chocolate/Cacao, Hazelnut, Coffee, Tonka bean, Vanilla, Butter Balsamic, resinous scents: Benzoin, Balsam peru and tolu, Dragons Blood Cedarwood Choya Loban(its got the smoky,bonfire/fireplace thing going on, with the resinous thing, and the leather thing too) Cade(for the same reasons) Patchouly to a degree, although earthy, I don't particulary attach its scent to any season. Woody smells in general I guess I will mention environmental fragrances too. Apples and pumpkins-verryy fall! Spiced cider Maple syrup(which Tonka bean reminds me of) Caramel Poultry seasoning herbs, which I also use for root vegetables, espedially sage, and thyme and rosemary. Also the smell of roasting poutlry. Burning leaves and woodsmoke(haven't smelled burning leaves in eons-it was banned here decades ago) All manner of baked goods and pastries from yeasty breads, to apple and pumpkin pies, cookies, cinnamon scones, quick breads, etc. My Dark Enchantment cake which I bake for every Halloween, It's basically a devils food cake with cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and extra vanilla. I've baked it for so many Halloweens, the smella and taste immediately take me to Halloween!
Guest guest
Hi, I think of dried colorful leaves, dried fruits, smoky scents and damp scent! Scents: fir, vetiver, oakmoss.... The sight of yellow, orange, brown leaves makes me happy! Can these leaves be tinctured? Angi

Heck, if it's dried, you can tincture just about anything! Not sure how much it would take for you to get the scent because I've not tinctured them yet. But I could probably find out pretty soon here. The huge maples that are over the house here dropped nearly all of their leaves in the wind and rain last night. ; ) Andrine
Guest guest
Thanks Andrine, I am going to give it a try! :0) If you do the same, please share with me your experience ok! The leaves are so lovely and have this humid dried scent. Meanwhile, I am trying to find more information regarding tincturing the leaves.
